To get the kids an electric blanket

Has anyone used an electric blanket in their kids beds?

Moved into a rental property a few months ago which is oil heated. You can only time the heating to come on twice a day and there is no thermostat to keep it on all day at a certain temperature all day. I went into DDs room early this morning and it was quite cold. None of my 3 DC have really ever taken a blanket l, they always kick them off.

So would IBU to get them an electric blanket?

I've used an electric blanket since I was a toddler! My mum was super careful with it, bought quality and kept it on the bed and wrinkle free. She said they were dangerous if they were kinked or folded or used wet - She inspected them regularly.

Nowadays they are very much safer, but keep them flat, write the date on a label on the cord, and get it inspected regularly - the local council or fire brigade often do this for free in the winter months. Some of the pricier ones have a range of heat options that would be suitable for the little ones.

I treated myself to a heated throw for the sofa, after MN recommendations a couple of years ago. Best blanket ever! It's the only time of year I'm not snuggling under a crochet project.

I haven´t thought about these for years. My grandparents had them and I loved getting into the warm bed when I was staying. If I remember correctly, they turned them on a while before bedtime and then off when we got in, but I´m sure they are on a timer these days.

I need an electric blanket. Had one growing up and absolutely loved it. DP doesn't want one...but maybe I'll get a single one for my side of the bed!

I loved mine

But I always remember that woody Allen joke about wetting the bed

Get hot water bottles and warm blankets

sweetbitter, you can get dual control ones!

I'm after a lambswool fleece type one. We don't need it, I just want it!

I don't even like the idea of them. Before our house was cladded, and the heating fixed, it was freezing. I bought extra duvets and put them under the bottom sheets, warm and comfy.

Yes of course. Da has had on since he was 5. They're amazing now, you can have them low and set the timer to turn off, they're completely washable too.

Get hot water bottles and warm blankets electric blankets are much safer than hot water bottles.

Electric blankets are great.

I wouldn't get one for a child who might wet the bed because of cleaning issues, but apart from that I don't see why you would hesitate.

I have one that goes under my bottom sheet, It has separate controls for each side of the bed. It also has a timer.
