To think that 7am on a work morning is not the time to "call in"

I actually get on quite well with my FIL but sometimes he is a complete fucking cockwomble.

They live about a mile down the road and him and DH work together in the family business. Occasionally he forgets it's 2017 and he can call DH to find out what he's planning to do that day, although today that wasn't necessary as they already knew what everyone was doing.

So why does he stride into my just mopped kitchen unannounced letting all the fucking dogs in, move all my cushions out of the window seat to accommodate his arse at 7 o fucking clock in the morning when he knows we're both busy getting shit together before work, I'm usually in various states of undress and at just under 38 weeks pregnant, not in the best of spirits.

And then the fucker says "what have you got there, a coffee?" Yes, yes I fucking have and I'm not offering you one, I'm sure you've got your own hot beverage making facilities at your own fucking house, off back to which you can fuck.

Argh. I feel sorry for my MIL on days like today. I'm in a bad mood now.

Mopping the floor and working at 38 weeks!!! Wtaf. Go back to bed love.

kateandme · 08/09/2017 08:48

did someone say farmers?if so then this is very much the norm.sorry

Lovingmybear2 · 08/09/2017 08:49

Yes mate a farmers wife and her kitchen is always cold as the door is always open. Would drive me crazy

WeatherDependent · 08/09/2017 08:50

Yes to farmers, that's how I grew up. Just waltz on in, non family members got a quick knock on the door. A quick feed and water was always expected.

My MIL hates it, I just stride on in, it's in my blood BlushConfusedWink

Frillyhorseyknickers · 08/09/2017 08:55

Yes, we're farmers! I'm a farmers daughter so I'm au fait with the drill.

I have a litter of puppies otherwise I would not be mopping a floor at that time!

I get up to sort horses and dogs out and my DH was in the workshop hence the door being unlocked.

I've peeled myself off of the ceiling now but I'm still fucked off - who does that at 7am. He's in his late 60s so I can't see us changing his behaviour any time soon.

Coastalcommand I could have offered him a drink, yes. But that would have encouraged him to stay longer and make it more of a regular occurrence, neither of which I want!!

I'm very impressed at you ignoring the blatant hint for a drink, actually. That's what you'd do to make visitors feel welcome, assuming they were. Cheeky feckers can whistle.

I recommend garlic hung over the door and by every window. Or is that vampires?

sashh · 08/09/2017 09:08

On a serious note, if this is your first baby, you need to nip this in the bud now or FIL will be popping in at all hours unannounced to see the baby.

^ this ^

A friend of mine had a baby on one breast and a pump on the other when her FIL walked in.

Adamadamant · 08/09/2017 09:09

Word of the day Cockwomble and I shall be trying to introduce it to all and sundry. If your 38 weeks pregnant you should be being looked after at 7.00 in the morning.

ladystarkers · 08/09/2017 09:11

You mopped the floor at 7 AM😮 Abd your 38 weeks pregnant😲

Ttbb · 08/09/2017 09:14

Poor you, farmer or not this would drive me mad.

RebeccaWrongDaily · 08/09/2017 09:18

i think the job goes with the house and therefore goes with the territory sadly for you.

Lovingmybear2 · 08/09/2017 09:19

I can understand your anger, OP. But there's no way your FIL will get it: men that don't do housework never do.

BornInALighthouse · 08/09/2017 09:21

No advice but sympathy. My partner used to walk to work with a guy who began turning up at 7.15am leaving time and ended up ringing the bell at 6.30am. It didn't last long after we just didn't answer.

Afreshstartplease · 08/09/2017 09:26

Yabu to be up at that time op

RiversrunWoodville · 08/09/2017 09:28

Yes we too are a farm, I feel your pain. Dhs cousin (also a farmer) is the worst offender for early morning, which gives me the rage especially trying to get dd1 out to school which given a SN diagnosis almost complete is not an easy feat, she would rather farm.

Frillyhorseyknickers · 08/09/2017 09:31

There is no chance of him coming over the baby and he's incredibly "proper" so breast pumps and the like would send him completely over the edge. I've decided the best course of action is to up my game of "various states of undress" I'm not shy.

OP posts:
PollyFlint · 08/09/2017 09:32

Farm or not, I would physically eviscerate anyone who 'popped in' at 7am.

sparechange · 08/09/2017 09:42

I'm not going to believe that any of this actually happened, until we get a pic of the puppies
Grin

Hoppinggreen · 08/09/2017 09:52

Feed him to the pigs ( or horses, or cows or whatever it is you farm)
This is not an option if its arable farming!!

Crunchymum · 08/09/2017 09:55

Wait, you are 38w pregnant? And your floors were mopped? Before 7am?

Fuck me I feel lazy Shock

Boatmistress17 · 08/09/2017 09:59

Puppy troll. . .

Scrowy · 08/09/2017 10:04

He may surprise you regarding the baby Frilly [bitter experience]

FIL has been known to poke my baby awake 'to say hi' I actually lost it slightly then as it had taken me an hour to get her to sleep.

I'm always surprised that there aren't more murders in farming families. Working with and living in close proximity to inlaws is never easy even if everyone is lovely and gets on well most of the time.

onalongsabbatical · 08/09/2017 10:08

not an option if its arable farming!! dunno about that, reckon she could make a good organic mulch with him in it.
