AIBU to find prospective customer RUDE?

I have recently set up a Facebook page for the items I crochet. I have taken a few orders and had lots of enquiries. Three people who apparently 'love' my work with amigurumi and such really wanted items made but were completely shocked at what I wanted to charge. To break it down for you but not out myself with the item it would've cost ££8 in wool, safety eyes and stuffing - its large plus I asked £9 for my time £17 total including pretty organza bag and free delivery!
These people reckon I'm off my rocker to ask such absurd prices for my time etc. I found the exact same item on etsy (the pattern is free no copyright) and the seller is asking £27! I posted the link for it to my page and ended up blocking one of the people as they felt it was aimed at them when I broke the cost down and asked my page followers if I was being unreasonable 🤔😩
So please be kind wonderful mumsnetters at tell me I've not lost the plot?!? Or AIBU?!?

Well, I wouldn't have started debating prices on your Facebook page as it probably looked a bit like you were taking a dig, but otherwise YANBU

I made the owl blanket that was doing the rounds on Facebook a while back. When I looked at how much wool I needed, the cheapest I could make it for in wool alone was £50. People have said I should start selling them but I can just imagine their faces if I told them how much it would cost when I added costs for my time Grin They wouldn't pay it when they can go down to primark or similar.

I knit my son tank tops to match some of his clothes from a popularish brand, because it's fun. I've recently had requests to knit for others. There's just no way I am spending my free time doing that.
It's amazing how rude people can be about cost and time when you craft. It's seems to be you owe it to others etc because you enjoy something. My husband truly loves his job, "fortunately" his employers pay him at the same rate as others at his grade! Imagine that conversation "hey we've noticed you enjoy your work and are quite good at it so we're offering you a 50% paycut".

I'd like to see these people try and haggle over prices in Tesco. With an individual person they figure they'll try being cheeky. Don't debate or haggle or explain. Just say the prices are the prices, non negotiable, and if they don't want to buy, good luck in finding what they're after.

I have nothing to add to the wise words you have received from other posters. But I'm curious now, can we see a photo of the organza bag?

Just for clarification it was all through private message it on my actual page, I'm not that improper 😂 I just put up a post showing the £27 one on etsy and broke the cost down of mine. The organza bags are your standard wedding favour ones but I will attach a pic anyway. I use them so the items stay clean, my nephew once grabbed something I'd made with icky fingers and ruined it, they cost about 25p each...

I hear you Flavia! I quoted for a single bed sized chunky blanket and a couple other things and the wool cost alone was £85. Needless to say, she declined 😭 That was her max budget.
I always, always cringe when I send someone a quote, think I need a new hobby 😂
