Sat outside school googling for healthy recipes and came across this recipe for a sausage and lentil casserole made with coca fucking cola Shock Envy (not envy face).

Also saw a chicken korma recipe last week that used a Mullerlight Confused and then there's their Fanta chicken Hmm.

What's with SW encouraging people to chuck cans of chemical filled fizzy drinks/artificially sweetened desserts into dinner recipes? I just can't imagine anyone in possession of their faculties and the internet choosing to cook such bizarre sounding dishes.

Am I wrong and am missing out on some real treats?!

Well normal korma has yogurt or cream and coconut in and is slightly sweet so I can see the logic of using a coconut muller light in the diet version. It may even be not as disgusting as it sounds as the spices will mask the taste of the yogurt.

There's good and bad in the SW diet. Done well, it's a healthy diet of low fat unprocessed foods without the need to weigh everything you eat and there is always something filling you can eat.

Done badly, it's a cocktail of artificial crap but if you are the type of person who gained weight eating lots of takeaways and processed food, it's probably going to be too much of a change to go for the full 'cook everything from scratch from loads of chicken and veg' so there is also the option to eat things like mug shots too, but eating lots of fresh unprocessed food is strongly encouraged.

But all in all it's just a calorie reduction plan, but too many people seem to think that it's a magic spell that has to be followed to the letter to work, which of course it doesn't but hence the silly comments about eating more syns to lose more weight.

lilly0 · 07/09/2017 15:52

I don't like slimming World it seems to think all fats are bad even healthy fats but eating tons of pasta is OK and so is eating unlimited muller lights (sugar) and mug shots.

SkintAsASkintThing · 07/09/2017 15:52

Literally what I said southern, fry the onions, mince, livers etc together in cajun seasoning then boil rice in a chicken stock cube, add brocolli to rice towards end. Stick rice and broccoli in with the cajun mixture, mix through a serve.

Some add tge rice to the same pan and cook it up like a.risotto but ive never done that. It's really nice and.healthy. Most sw recipes are tbh.

TheFirstMrsDV · 07/09/2017 16:01

I went to SW in a moment of madness after having DC5
Loads of women I knew went so I thought I would give it a go.

I say Shock as the facilitator spoke bollocks for half an hour and held up tins of pease pudding and other shite in a can. She also held up different slices of bread and pointed out that one was smaller than the other so you could eat more of it (NOT making that up).

The food recommended was not healthy. It was all about syns.

Fruit was bad for you.

Eliza9917 · 07/09/2017 16:03

I think SW is pretty horrendous really. It advocates unlimited sugar in muller lights, plus aspartame and god knows what else in diet drinks. And how they think they'll lose weight by eating unlimited pasta and potatoes, I don't know.

You only have to look at the facebook groups to see the nonsense that is spouted as 'healthy'.

And don't get me started on those that complain that they only lose 1/2 a lb a fortnight, yet cram in as much junk as possible for their full 15 syns a day - all the while broadcasting that they use no syns for cooking oil etc - its all gummy bears and quavers and milky ways ffs.

It's almost cult-like as well, god forbid you try to educate these people on what healthy actually is - IT'S IN THE PLAN SO ITS HEALTHY, yeah ok then Hmm

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 07/09/2017 16:11

Can't stand SW.

In what way can Avocado be bad and high in syns while a curly whirly is much lower? Weird.

Lovemusic33 · 07/09/2017 16:18

I did slimming world for a while then realised that it's just a big scam that food brands buy into (mullerlight being one). It's very odd that you have to sin sugar on your cereal yet your allowed to eat yoghurts full of sugar and sweeteners. Most of the recipes are rubbish apart from the campfire stew which is amazing .

I didn't lose hardly any weight, I quit, joined the gym and started eating non processed crap, lost 2 stone Smile.

brasty · 07/09/2017 16:22

"syns" simply replaces what they used to call them, "sins".

BarbaraofSevillle · 07/09/2017 16:23

Yawn. Another SW bashing thread where no-one can see past the (non compulsory) Muller Lights

The main part is eating mostly lean meat, vegetables, salad, fruit, pulses, eggs, low fat dairy, limited amounts of wholemeal bread and cheese and very small amounts of crap, so you can limit your calorie intake without having to weigh everything you eat, which is faffy.

Yet people rant on endlessly about one particular product that some people choose to include in the plan.

tissuesosoft · 07/09/2017 16:24

This website has some good recipes- pinchofnom.com

Slimthistime · 07/09/2017 16:29

I've seen recipes with diet coke in general, not in any slimming club things.

what's that about?

I remember a friend giving me Guiness bread once, didn't like that either.

amusedbush · 07/09/2017 16:32

Eliza9917

I 100% agree with you, and I say that as someone who is currently doing SW.

After 15 years of eating disorders, bingeing, restricting, compulsive exercising and feeling like shit, I'm finding that SW allows me the freedom from (almost all) weighing and measuring and I'm making healthy choices because I want to.

However, I can't stand the way some people blindly follow "the plan", shoving sugar and sweetener in like nobody's business. I eat sensible portions of "free" food, I use my syns for small treats or things to make my meals more interesting and I won't touch any of the frankenfood the facebook groups push.

How is eating an entire weetabix "cake" practicing healthy behaviour?? I don't care if it's free, you're still shovelling in an entire cake!

ItsAllAboutThePace · 07/09/2017 16:34

sorry but these are not exclusive to slimming world?

loads od non sw recipes call for coca cola/fanta/lemonade

Giraffey1 · 07/09/2017 16:36

Recipes using Coke / Fanta etc didn't originate with SW. They've just adapted them to fit within thier 'rules'.

tabulahrasa · 07/09/2017 16:40

"In what way can Avocado be bad and high in syns while a curly whirly is much lower? Weird."

Not really, it's dead straightforward tbh, avocados aren't bad, they're just higher in syns than a curly wurly because they're higher in calories... obviously avacados are a healthier way of using those calories, but it's down to individual choice which someone's going to prefer.

ShapelyBingoWing · 07/09/2017 16:40

Syns is short for synergy because you need to eat

I know this is what they say but I really don't believe that's the reason at all. Just an excuse explanation they've come up with to justify getting their members to refer to off-plan foods as sins.

I can't get on board with this diet at all, though God help me I've tried. Their latest pack quotes a study that's almost as old as I am as being the whole basis of the diet. Said study has been undermined by more recent research many many times.

And unlimited carbs really isn't a clever mechanism of reducing caloric intake.

Eliza9917 · 07/09/2017 16:41

AmusedBush

I agree totally.

I think you have the cult members that do it because they can eat SOOO MUCH of crappy foods - BUT ITS OK, BECAUSE IT'S IN THE PLAN, and still kid themselves that its healthy and then you have the sensible people that do it without eating all the rubbish.

I lost a bit over a stone on it - BUT I didn't have the healthy extra B, I didn't eat pasta, rice or potatoes (because I don't eat those anyway). I also didn't eat Muller Lights or alpen light bars or mug shots or any other processed junk that they advocate. And I only used syns for cooking oils etc, and not on as much junk as I could cram in for the 15 points. In fact, I would try to keep my syns as low as possible - but of course, that's blasphemy because if you don't eat 15 syns worth of shit a day, you won't lose weight Grin

bananafanana1 · 07/09/2017 16:43

I adore SlimmingWorld- it's not specific to high sugar people at all!

It's loads of fresh veg, fruit and lean meat and fish!! There are measured servings of fibre and calcium too. Some great recipes that basically cut out the fat. The curtsy are awesome- I've never heard of one with a mullet light - but that sounds odd!

The hi-fi bars are great, can be used as a substitute to a chocolate bar. It's really made me eat lots of fresh food, it's not about sugar free replacements at all.

Eliza9917 · 07/09/2017 16:44

The SW pages of FB Grin

to think these Slimming World recipes are rank?
Travis1 · 07/09/2017 16:44

Hmm oh look a bunch of people bitching about a diet they've never done because they can't see past muiller fucking lights. 2 stone down and a muillerlight has never touched my lips. As for the person who says they were told fruit is bad I call bullshit. Fruit is syn free and a lot of it is considered 'speed' foods. i.e it's calorie dense so should be used to make up 1/3 of your plate.

Don't get me wrong there are people who will find a way to make what they WANT to eat fit into the SW plan, which is where you get people doing lasagne sheet crisps, cous cous cake etc etc but these people won't loose weight(or very little) and would be the same no matter what plan they followed because they just don't get it and unfortunately they probably never will.

tabulahrasa · 07/09/2017 16:45

"And unlimited carbs really isn't a clever mechanism of reducing caloric intake."

They're not unlimited though... the limits are just replacing a third of them with veg and stopping when you're comfortably full instead of measuring them.

CappuccinoSprinkles · 07/09/2017 16:45

Ham in Coca Cola is a Nigella recipe. Slimming World just extend it to chicken too and use diet drinks.

amusedbush · 07/09/2017 16:46

I've lost 10lbs in five weeks and the only thing I'll complain about is Slimming World Farts. Standing sprints at spinning class are a challenge; I've had to start taking a bike at the back of the room BlushGrin

Travis1 · 07/09/2017 16:50

What tabulahrasa said. Any consultant worth their salt should be telling members to reduce their 'normal' portion of pasta, potatoes etc by 1/3 and replace it with 'speed' foods i.e salad/veg etc. It's not having what you normally eat and then ADDING another 1/3 of veggies. Ultimately it's attempting to create a calorie deficit without calling it that.

frenchlife19 · 07/09/2017 16:51

Been on slimming world just a year and have lost 7stone .I pick and choose which foods I will and won't eat and avoid the over processed crap .It's what suits the individual ,I personally need the discipline of going to group and weighing in .
