AIBU to not wash stuff more?

DS started reception yesterday

he's worn his trousers and polo twice - both look clean still (!?)
have put polo in wash tonight after day 2 anyway
trousers i was going to let him wear again tomorrow - is that grim?

how often do you wash this stuff??!

why don't i just instinctively know this...

it's like some weird parallel universe where i can't work out the right way to do things. school i mean.

I have 5 sets and just wash them after one wear but that's only because I cba to check for dirt 😂

CoughLaughFart · 06/09/2017 22:23

Trousers only need one wash a week. Shirts can last for two days at that age (i.e. pre teen sweating!)

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 06/09/2017 22:23

I have a clean set for every day

bridgetreilly · 06/09/2017 22:23

Sounds fine to me. 2 days for shirts. 3/4 days for trousers. I don't know why, that's just what I've always done. Maybe because you wear pants under trousers?

OwlinaTree · 06/09/2017 22:24

I'd do clean teeshirt everyday and trousers as long as they stay clean enough tbh. I'd chuck them in the wash Friday regardless.

UterusUterusGhali · 06/09/2017 22:25

My reception aged children had one set per day as they got filthy. My year 3 child still needs one set a day but he has heaps of hand-me-downs.

I found I can space it out a bit as they get older. 15yo has a fresh shirt daily but 1-2 skirts. 9yo can eek it out.

There's no hard and fast rule. :)

meladeso · 06/09/2017 22:30

ok good thanks folks, not BU then really, just going to see how he goes and wash as needed

i have plenty for him, but don't like wasteful washing!

I used to have same trousers and sweatshirt all week, sponged sweatshirt when it had food marks.
They had enough polos for one per day if needed, but I usually made them do more than one day.

Lots on mn do clean clothes every day. I have always tried to avoid that as is seems excessive.
ds started secondary though and they had field for football at lunchtime, and he then needed clean trousers every day!

Allthewaves · 06/09/2017 22:37

Trousers every two days and new shirt everyday

YorkieButtons · 06/09/2017 22:39

Dd is 6 and in y2, she wears a fresh uniform every day. That's polo shirt ( white ) grey skirt or pinafore and a royal blue school cardigan. I have just bought 4 sets of everything but may get an extra set and wash the whole lot once a week, whites
obviously separate.

She is always grubby after school and most of my friends are the same with their dc.

Ds is in secondary and I wash his tie
once a week, blazer once a month and he also has fresh uniform on daily.

You must be new here. It won't be long before someone posts that they take clean clothes to school at lunchtime for their DC to change into for the afternoon and anyone who makes their DC wear the same clothes all day is a filthy neglectful slatten.

MissSmiley · 06/09/2017 22:45

I used to only wash what looked dirty until I found out about criss cross wees. School shorts got covered in piss during this game then dried on the radiator at school. Came home looking ok (and didn't smell too bad either) only found out about it when chatting to the boys... urgh!

MissSmiley · 06/09/2017 22:46

Barbara ha ha!

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 06/09/2017 22:49

I think we need more details on criss cross wees....

Seniorcitizen1 · 06/09/2017 22:52

Have set of clothes for each day

Genericusername9 · 06/09/2017 22:57

I make them last as long as reasonably possible... A quick wipe over with a damp cloth usually gets jumpers to last for longer than just 1 day!

Ohyesiam · 06/09/2017 23:03

I wash it when it looks dirty, from about year give can be a bit wiffy too.
I restrain myself from getting cross when they get toothpaste down the front of an otherwise clean top.Blush
But I like a simple life, so my kids have always had lots of sets of everything, and about 30 pairs of pants, socks each, so it's zero effort to keep on to of it.

MsVestibule · 06/09/2017 23:04

Polo shirts - wear twice
Trousers and skirts - weekly
Jumpers - when they look dirty!

donajimena · 06/09/2017 23:07

What's a criss cross wee?

madamginger · 06/09/2017 23:13

My filthy boys get clean uniform every day, because they usually come home covered in mud, pen or half their lunch.
The eldest is in year 6 and she gets a couple of days out of her cardigan and skirt but a clean polo every day.

Judd · 06/09/2017 23:16

Criss cross wee is where your DS and a couple of mates get round the toilet together and all wee at the same time!

Aderyn17 · 06/09/2017 23:17

Skirt/trousers and jumper can be worn 2 days in a row if dc haven't spilt school dinner down them or gotten muddy.
Shirt is clean every day.

SandSnakeOfDorne · 06/09/2017 23:26

Wow, I'm amazed that not all kids are visibly filthy every day. DS's school doesn't have a uniform, but he comes home covered in mud, paint and other random stuff. I couldn't use the same stuff twice!

chitofftheshovel · 06/09/2017 23:29

Well, mine had 1 pair of trousers, 1 jumper and a couple of polos for the week. Washed on the Friday, ready for the Monday, all through primary (one now in y6, other y8).

It depends a lot, I guess, on the school they're at, how messy they are, your expectations of their clothes and how much washing you are prepared/able to do and get dry.

gettingbacktoresearch · 06/09/2017 23:29

Both of mine have been filthy sods so fresh of both everyday and even today, DD in year 3 came home with all sorts of muck on her white shirt! Stains don't always come out either..... Angry
