To be bloody fed up with GP?

fed up with feeling shit so drove down to gp last thurs because I know there's something wrong with me, and she said there was absolutely nothing wrong with me, but I was in and out of there within five minutes 😒
I've been exhausted for a couple of weeks, lost my appetite, been feeling sick and recently noticed a rash on my legs, surely there's something going round? Any ideas?
I've been to our GP twice in the last three years, and that was only due to checkups, and I really expected either a diagnosis or at least a hint of actually giving a shit, aibu? Perhaps I'm being naive but I'm just sick of feeling shit ☹️

I think you have unrealistic expectations of what your GP could actually do. What you describe is most likely a weird virus and there is nothing that can be done for a virus that has only lasted 2 weeks. Your symptoms are vague and would need to last for months for investigations to be started.

iamyourequal · 04/09/2017 20:38

Sorry you are unwell OP. Did she not even take bloods (or book you in for them) to run tests? Did she look at your rash? Was you BP checked?

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 04/09/2017 20:39

Exhausted and lost appetite - pregnant?

To be fair it's not much to go on for a diagnosis but it's shit you didn't get a little bit of sympathy.

threesprogs · 04/09/2017 20:43

Bad Not pregnant, dh is in army and is overseas currently so definitely not, I went into more detail at GP, eg my joints and bones are aching and my vision has been a bit blurry, so I'm actually starting to get worried.

You do need to follow this up from your description. Can you ask to see another doctor? It could just be a virus, but there are a couple of things mentioned which could be red flags.

Moanyoldcow · 04/09/2017 20:46

I had these exact symptoms a year ago, minus the rash.

Turned out I had a terrible Vitamin D deficiency. I take high dosage daily supplements and it's really sorted it out.

Couldn't hurt to try.

threesprogs · 04/09/2017 20:49

Moanyoldcow that's actually a good idea as I live in cold dark Scotland, but we've recently been overseas to see dh so I've stocked up on my vit d, and taken supplements since

I felt exactly the same - knackered, nauseous, even had a rash on my legs - and it was iron deficiency anaemia. Not saying that's the only possibility or even the most likely (not medically trained) but I'd expect a blood test would be the first thing to do, surely? I think you're quite right to feel fobbed off if that wasn't suggested or some reason given why it wasn't appropriate.

threesprogs · 04/09/2017 21:02

Roly had a c-section for dc3 in July + lost a lot of blood, so may go back to gp and raise my concerns. I'm not usually bothered when it comes to my own health as I prioritise dcs, but I there's something odd about how I'm feeling that I think is just wrong

If you've been in any woodland areas / long grass recently and the rash is the right shape, it could be Lyme disease?

DrHorribletookmycherry · 04/09/2017 21:22

My psoriasis started after a virus with hugely sore throat, viral rashes and massive exhaustion? I need vitamin d and sunshine all the time!
I think a further appointment seems needed.

Moanyoldcow · 04/09/2017 21:23

FWIW, I had a section too and it is a killer in terms of energy. It can take some months to sort the Vit D - my doc said I should take 4000i per day - most people would only take 1000i so maybe try upping your dose.

Definitely go back to the doctor though - blood tests at the best least are required.

I suspect they might just think it's normal post-natal fatigue but thyroid issues are very common after birth so you should be checked out.

Winosaurus · 04/09/2017 21:29

I had this and I have a severe vitamin D deficiency apparently!
I started taking supplements and felt better after about 6 weeks... but definitely get checked and ask for blood work. I had to be quite forceful about it as I felt I wasn't being taken seriously.
It luckily turned out to be easily treated but it's always best to err on the side of caution

threesprogs · 04/09/2017 21:36

will get more vitamin d, thank you everyone xx

Follow up on what other posters have suggested as I have low vit D and get very tired and achey.

Definitely go back to your gp and don't be fobbed off. I left with my tail between my legs after my bitch ex GP dismissed any idea I could be ill when I didn't pick up after vicious flu. She did this in multiple visits. 24hrs after her last dismissal my boarding school GP was having me tested for Leukaemia. Luckily I didn't have it but a much earlier blood test would have picked up the real problem.

iklboo · 04/09/2017 21:50

Agree with PP - I had similar symptoms but Vit D deficiency was only picked up in blood tests for something else.

BellaNoche · 04/09/2017 22:21

Vitamin D deficiency for me also, if you are dark skinned even more possible that it could be .... ask for a blood test to rule it in or out.
