To open a paypal dispute with this company?

I bought an item back in April, lets call it a kettle.
The kettle now doesn't work, the light pops on but nothing boils. I expected this kettle to last me at least 2 years, maybe more, and since buying the kettle I've discovered that this is a known issue, quite commonly known amongst kettle connoisseurs (but not on review sites), and a 2nd working version of the kettle has been brought out.

I contacted the company to see what the options were and they told me they could refund me upon picking up the kettle and testing to check its broken. Great!

Only, 2 different courier companies appear to have either not been informed about picking the item up on 3 separate days, or the company has not bothered to arrange pick up at all. It's getting incredibly frustrating and after the 3rd day of waiting in all day (from 9am-7pm) I'm a bit fed up. I've double checked the address the company hold for me and it's correct. I've even given my phone number so the courier company can contact me should there be any problem.

Also unfortunately I really needed this kettle so I had to buy another kettle in the meantime (from a different company), so I really would like to return the broken kettle.

I've since checked my paypal and discovered I used it to buy the kettle. Paypal disputes cover items that have suffered internal damage and don't work as described, which I feel fits the kettle's current state. Will I be unreasonable to open a dispute?

I'm perfectly happy to send the darn thing back, if the company will just properly arrange either the courier to pick it up or for me to drop it off at a depot!
