To feel glad Summer is almost over?

RhubardGin · 04/09/2017 11:30

My friends and colleagues are all speaking about how sad they are that Summer is almost over and that it will soon be cold and dark again (I live in Scotland)

But I LOVE Autumn/Winter and I've never liked Summer. When I tell people this they look at me like I've just told them I like to kick puppies in my spare time!

Is anyone else looking forward to the cosy dark nights and getting their fluffy boots, coats, scarves and gloves out of the wardrobe? Or am I a complete weirdo?

I love everything about Autumn/Winter! Cosy nights, cosy clothes, getting the candles on, Halloween, Bonfire night, Christmas, the crisp wintery chill in the air 😍

Anyone else?

Count me in, I much prefer dressing for winter than summer, plus I work nights, much easier to sleep in the day when it's winter than summer months 😴

Maple & Whisky on etsy do a pumpkin spiced latte candle and it is lovely!

Yes summers can be wet, but they are warm and wet which is really hard to dress comfortably for if you have to be outside and active. Give me cold and wet any day. I can layer up in my wellies and stay much more comfortable than I do when it's hot and humid.

Hot and humid, I wish!

LoniceraJaponica. Isn't it funny how many 'I hate summer/I love Autumn' threads there are? When we NEVER HAD A SUMMER.
The summer haters are out in force despite there being no summer....

Not seen one 'I hate dreary cold wet days' thread, which are the norm for most of the year..

toffee1000 · 04/09/2017 21:44

And before anyone jumps in, summer-lovers don't have a romanticised idea of summer. We live in Britain, we have a realistic idea. We wish it was warmer for longer but reality has us in check. Other countries laugh when our media reports 25C "heatwaves". That's quite cool for them.

"Not seen one 'I hate dreary cold wet days' thread, which are the norm for most of the year.."

Don't worry. I shall start one. There are usually threads from mumsnetters who struggle to heat their homes and dry their washing in winter, and having been there myself I know how much it sucks.

Autumn is my favourite season of all. I love the dewy mornings, mists, and that all the crops have been cut so I can walk the dog properly again Grin. It's warm jumpers, cosy boots and evenings with the woodburner lit. Happy days.

Love summer and being warm. Always ensure travel of 2 weeks of proper summer weather i.e. Spain.

Yes pre Christmas and early Jan have their charm but lead into the dirge of Feb / March. I bloody hate March so BORED of being cold by then.

LoniceraJaponica · 04/09/2017 22:44

Oh the irony of the summer haters extolling the virtues of thick jumpers and blankets Confused

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 04/09/2017 22:49

YANBU all of you, summer finishes on the Last Night of the Proms.

Teabagtits · 04/09/2017 22:55

We didn't have a summer this year. It's been wet the entire time. I do enjoy when nights start to get darker and you can stay in a cosy house and ignore the shite weather

LoniceraJaponica · 04/09/2017 23:03

I do enjoy the lighter evenings when you can go for a walk after tea or sit outside because it is warm. Sadly, this almost never happens where we live because it is rarely warm enough.
