We are 100% set on Noah.

Joseph is a name that's on both sides... We also really like it Smile

Does it sound too religious?

I think Noah Joseph is a lovely name, but for me it does conjure slightly religious pictures. Noah and Joseph were fairly famous in the bible - people like Peter and Jacob less so. But as you say, how often will he use them together?

awifeyforlifey · 04/09/2017 09:38

First of all, congratulations! I'm happy to say that YABVU. The names are lovely, and all that matters is that you like them. Enjoy your new baby!

Potterhead113 · 04/09/2017 09:38

Definitely

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 04/09/2017 09:40

I wouldn't worry too much.
Middle names are only important when you first announce the child's name, and are irrelevant once they are 6 months old

TheVanguardSix · 04/09/2017 09:42

Yes. It does. Which is wonderful if you're a person committed to your faith. But if you're not religious in the least, it's a bit Hmm.

Ttbb · 04/09/2017 09:44

Yes. On their own they don't really sound religious but when you stick them together suddenly all the biblical references come to mind. Not necessarily anything wrong with that though. No different to choosing a name from folklore or classical mythology.

user1490607838 · 04/09/2017 09:46

It does a bit. But hey ho, so what? Smile

I prefer Joseph Noah to be honest, but that's just me! Grin

Whether you are a Church goer or an atheist or something in between, biblical names are still very beautiful. (Most of them anyway!)

MrsJayy · 04/09/2017 09:48

One of my dds has 2 biblical names and we are not religious i honestly didn't give it a thought till now and she is nearly 20 we just liked the names, unless you are going to say his full name then middle names are usually forgotten anyway

iknowimcoming · 04/09/2017 09:50

I was coming in to say I prefer Joseph Noah too! That way if he wants it could be shortened to Joe when he's older but you wouldn't shorten a middle name, also I think of Noah as a child's name rather than an adult but might just be cos I don't know any adult Noah's. You could always 'save' Joseph for another baby though Grin

HostaFireAndIce · 04/09/2017 09:56

Both my sons have deliberately (IYSWIM) Catholic names and middle names. Not many people, save a few at church, seem to have noticed. It'll be fine, OP. They're nice names Smile

FlakeBook · 04/09/2017 10:00

I think hey go together beautifully!

AnnieOH1 · 04/09/2017 10:12

We have a Noah Jacob here and have previously been mistaken as Jewish by a tailor who actually gave us a great discount ;)

Just an aside, Joseph and Noah (of dreamcoat and flood) are probably more recognised by "the world" as Bible figures, but Peter and Jacob were far more important on the whole. Peter was the rock through which the Papacy traces it's lineage; Jacob was the founder of Israel through which all her children (the Jewish people) trace theirs.

BackieJerkhart · 04/09/2017 10:19

and

Shock norr??

BackieJerkhart · 04/09/2017 10:20

Trying to think what are Catholic names? Mary? John-paul?

HostaFireAndIce · 04/09/2017 11:17

Haha, yes, those are Catholic names. Wink

Straycatblue · 04/09/2017 12:55

Perplexed about why it would matter if it sounds too religious??

This is strange thread that seems to suggest that there is something negative about having two names that are Jewish/Christian, implying that being part of those faiths is negative.

KinkyFruits · 04/09/2017 13:10

Odd that people consider those to be Christian names. They are both from the Old Testament so just as likely to be Jewish. But both quite common now even for non-religious people.

OceanWaving · 04/09/2017 13:12

No one ever uses middle names so doesn't matter if they flow or not. I don't even know some close families middle names off the top of my head. Go with Noah Joseph

Fresh8008 · 04/09/2017 13:19

On their own fine but together I would assume your a very religious family. People will probably perceive your DS in a certain light.

OlennasWimple · 04/09/2017 13:36

How about switching them round: Joseph Noah flows well

jay55 · 04/09/2017 13:42

I think they're lovely solid sounding names and Noah works well for child and adult.

coffeeslave · 04/09/2017 14:10

Just don't give him the nickname "NoJo", it sounds too close to a certain Tory politician Grin

Decaffstilltastesweird · 04/09/2017 14:12

I think it's fine. Lots of popular names are biblical.

AllToadsLeadToHome · 04/09/2017 14:28

If the last name is Dingle they are great. But seriously I would go for Joseph because I like it, but not Noah.

ConcreteUnderpants · 04/09/2017 16:00

Coming on here to say go for it! They are both lovely names (although I also prefer Joseph Noah!)

For what it's worth, my DM didn't want me naming my twins Ezra and Reuben as they were 'too Jewish'! Shock

Err, mother, we are Jewish!!! Confused
