To want to childproof the flat?

MIL has booked a family holiday for us, them and other family members. I'm very grateful as this is very generous of her; she's paying. Lovely.

However, I have a one year old. Like most children his age, he's lively and curious. Our house is baby proofed so he mostly has free reign. Otherwise he climbs things, pulls stuff out, lands/falls on things. Normal behaviour.

The accommodation is beautiful- right down to the glass China cabinet at floor level, lovely vase on the floor, several open fire places and a steep staircase. I want to ring the owners and ask if a stair gate and fire guard are possible. Either supplied by owner or I bring. Also if I can move breakables out of reach.

According to MIL this isn't necessary and we'll just keep any eye on my little engine of chaos...

For two weeks...

Help!

YADNBU, even if your toddler 'just' falls on a vase they can end up with a nasty injury.
It wont be much of a relaxing holiday for you unless you sort it out.

Yanbu, it sounds very unsuitable for a one year old. Yes, you watch your child, but you don't want to spend every second of your holiday ready to pounce on him if he so much as looks at one of the breakables. And accidents can happen even with you watching. That's far too stressful to be a holiday for you!

The stress I can cope with (just) a child with a cut head or worse, less so.

I may have to 'make a fuss' regardless of MIL fragility over it.
