To ask urgently can you get gas permeable lenses next day?

Sorry, just here for traffic.
Have lost a lens and I can't see to drive well enough in my glasses.
I can get my current prescription from the optician today and order today if anyone does Sunday orders.
Or I am having an appointment tomorrow (I don't think it's changed much but they said it's out of date). Then if I can find next day delivery it would be here on Tues.
But I can't even find next day delivery for week days!
Heeelp...

I hage no idea sorry. But please get your glasses updated so they are correct vision for these kind of emergencies!

lougle · 03/09/2017 12:10

Where do you live? Your options will be wider in London, but there may be hope elsewhere, too.

hellsbells99 · 03/09/2017 12:11

Won't your opticians be able to give you some dailies just for a week or so whilst you order new ones?

drspouse · 03/09/2017 12:13

In theory they are up to date - they are the same age as my lenses. I just don't feel comfortable in them and vision is never as good in glasses (the optician explained it's because of the gap between the eye and the lens). So it's partly subjective but it still means I'm not comfortable in them.
I might get used to it with a week's wear but that would still be a week with me not feeling happy driving!

hells My lenses aren't soft lenses, dailies are soft lenses.

lougle not London sadly.

Have you tried Vision Direct? They do next day delivery.

Or would Specsavers/Boots/Vision Express not have them in stock? They would possibly all be open until 4pm?

MoistestJoist · 03/09/2017 12:18

Maybe try www.visiondirect.co.uk? I think they stock daily, fortnightly and monthly lenses.

notangelinajolie · 03/09/2017 12:20

Don't know about lenses but you could get a pair of glasses in an hour from the likes of specsavers or vision express. Service varies depending on which branch you go to but if you need to drive then you will need to get something to help you see.

lougle · 03/09/2017 12:20

I think hells was suggesting the dailies for just a few days as an emergency measure until you could get your usual lenses.

ambereeree · 03/09/2017 12:24

Mine normally take a week even in london. Can you wear dailies in your perscription? I do but vision is not that crisp.

MarmaladeIsMyJam · 03/09/2017 12:26

GP lenses are normally made especially to your prescription so you don't normally get them next day. If you have an appointment tomorrow they might be able to give you some daily torics to tide you over but you wear GP lenses for a reason so they might not be great to wear.

IllegitimisNilCarborandum · 03/09/2017 12:37

Lenstore do next delivery, should be able to get them to you for Tuesday Smile

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 03/09/2017 12:41

Another vote for Vision Direct.

drspouse · 03/09/2017 12:44

I don't find soft lenses very comfortable - that's why I wear GP. But they might be able to give me another pair as a trial, it's true, and at least I'll be able to see!
I suspected that was why they take such ages to come normally, sadly.

OP posts:
drspouse · 03/09/2017 12:45

Monthly/daily/weekly are all soft lenses sadly.

OP posts:
drspouse · 03/09/2017 12:49

Vision Direct don't do GP.
Even with a bang up to date glasses prescription I don't feel comfortable driving, sadly. I think it's because I'm so used to lenses.

(A lot of sadly there. I'm having a bad day!)

Its getting increasingly difficult to find opticians that fit gp lenses. OP i feel your pain...i also prefer to drive wearing gp lenses.

drspouse · 03/09/2017 12:59

I think the transition from GP to glasses is a particular problem due to the shape of the eye (tries to sound knowledgeable).

PestoSwimissimos · 03/09/2017 13:31

Years ago I lost a GP lens just before I was due to go skiing in USA. My opticians ordered it for me and even marked as urgent it was going to take a week to be returned from the factory that makes them. So I found out where the factory was located, contacted them myself and once I'd explained they contacted me when it was ready. Instead of them shipping it back to the opticians my dad very kindly drove there to collect it for me.

Just an idea?

HidingBehindTheWallpaper · 03/09/2017 13:36

Sorry but Gas Permeatable lenses are made to order.

I don't wish to sound like a nag but you really should have glasses for your prescription.

specialsubject · 03/09/2017 13:37

I think you need a new optician. Vision should be better with glasses. You must have a backup pair of specs.

HidingBehindTheWallpaper · 03/09/2017 13:38

Also gp lens are increasingly rare. I can't imagine that any optician will have them in stock.

helpfulperson · 03/09/2017 14:06

Like you i'm a GP lens wearer and my vision, even with a current glasses prescription is not great but what I do if I need to drive in my glasses is use a glasses strap that I can tighten a pull my glasses closer to my face which resolves it. As you said it is to do with how far glasses sit from your eyes and how heavy your lenses are. I got one in decathlon for £3.00. In an emergency a piece of thin string can do the same.
