To start a new job and get pregnant?

I recently left a corporate job of 10 years to retrain as a firefighter. Something I've wanted to do for a long time. It's been intense but I've just qualified so fresh into it. But...I can't shake wanting to have another DC. I thought going for the career change would distract me or put to bed the feelings. AIBU to even consider it?

You're not BU for considering it, personally I'd wait for a year or 2 and see how you feel about the job, you might when you're ttc really start to love it and then fall pregnant and not be on the front line so to speak (I assume you'll be office or community based straight away if you announce pregnancy), there's also your employment rights as you haven't been with the fire service for 2 years.

Your life, your decision at the end of the day, no-one elses business.

If I was you I would have another child. I've had two cases of a new job and then become pregnant - both times people were happy, mat leave sorted and then returned when it was finished - all good 👍 It's your choice in life and don't feel bound by a sense of duty to your job, your own personal life comes first.

Just bear in mind your maternity pay may be lower as you sometimes have to be in a job for a minimum year or two. I wasn't entitled to full payment benefits for either of mine, but I did manage. Had I been there longer I'd have had more Mat pay.

Good luck with your decision 😊💐 remember work will always be there. Your life comes first xxxxx

You can consider it of course.
If you go ahead I think you are BU, £'000s have just been spent training you and you're going off on maternity leave.

Mind you I'm pissed off at the moment, someone we recruited 2 months ago turned up to work v obviously pregnant. There's no way she didn't know and we're stuck with her on a years maternity leave in 2 months time.

How many kids have u got and how old are u? Ie) could u have this career for quite a few years and the have a kid rather than do it right now?

I started my current job 5 months pregnant. It's only a small portion of your total working life (although it was only 4 months when I did it) so while the timing might not be ideal, in the larger scheme, it's no biggie.

I'm desperate to leave current job due to management change and alot of very good staff jumping ship leaving me feeling disheartened and having low motivation
I am also currently TTC. Alot of friends have said just leave who cares if you get pregnant. I however would have massive guilt if I was trained up etc and then left them in 8/9 months time. But as other posters have said personal life comes first. Wish i could take their advice!!!
