Banged head, aibu to be terrified?

I should first say I have chronic anxiety disorder with health anxiety so I constantly worry that aches and pains mean certain death and need some perspective.

Yesterday - 27 hours ago to be accurate. I banged my head standing up from the floor and hitting a metal structure above me. It hurt A LOT (obviously) where it impacted the side of my head. I had a headache on that side of my head for the rest of the evening and occasionally (twice) saw sparkles of white light in the corner of my eyes. I woke up this morning.... (win) and the area I banged is still very very sore. I didn't pass out, I can remember it all happening, I haven't been sick, however today have felt quite fuzzy headed and out of sorts, like having a hangover tbh.

So, how likely is it I'm going to ok versus something horrific going on, just need to calm myself I think.

It's probably just a really good bruise, but you should call nhs 24 to get their advice and put your mind at rest.

Fulltimeworrier · 02/09/2017 21:13

Yes most likely. I did consider calling them but I'm sure they will just say go in if there is something obviously wrong.
The most difficult part of my anxiety is knowing when it's just that and to wait it out or if there really is something I should be getting looked at.

Thanks for the reply Smile

Most head injuries do not cause serious issues, but if you're worried then speak to 111.

I've had concussion a couple of times and I couldn't write or text properly afterwards.
Didn't go to hospital and I was ok after a few hours both times.
I misjudged a wall I was jumping over once too and knocked myself out and I was ok then also. Unless you've been sick or drowsy afterwards I'm sure you'll be fine!

Ring NHS direct, they'll ask you loads of questions to assess you and then tell you if you need to do anything more. I've rung them before when I've banged my own head. Give them a call, it's what they're there for.

My dd had concussion a few weeks ago and the Dr said it would feel like a hangover for up to 6 weeks.
She vomited initially then deemed safe to go home as she was coordinated and coherent.

RonSwansonsMoustache · 02/09/2017 21:24

I would imagine you have a bit of concussion - ring 111 if you want to put your mind at rest.

ImAProseccoHoBro that's makes me feel a lot better thank you! I'm just a worrier I know logically it's probably fine!

Bump is going down but still have a headache today and feel fuzzy headed, must have been quite a knock.

I had concussion once and it came on the day after I got a really hard whallop. I was woozy, felt sick and a bit disorientated. I was at work and nobody seemed to notice!

I'm frequently bashing my head (ds has a high sleeper which is forehead height). I'm still here!

My son had concussion, was very drowsy and then vomited a few times...I think if there was something seriously wrong you'd know...I've banged my head hard before and it felt sore for at least a day or two. I had my head in a wooden box which was being used as a washing basket trying to find something and the fell on my head!!
