I get terrible periods so bad that I'm on medecation. Which when taken constantly helps the pain. I'm working both days this weekend and right now I'm exhausted can't keeps my eyes open. I've had two cokes water good lunch but I'm absolutely shattered. We have a party tonight at home luckily not mine and I don't have to make an appearance but I will to be polite. Any tips other than having a nap when I'm home that might help. My eyes are aching tummy hurts I feel sick have had a migraine Past few days and all other staff are away

Are you on iron supplements? I know that's a longer term solution but I'd have your bloods checked with the doc to see if you need extra iron? If you have to go out then some paracetamol and a cold shower to invigorate.

elliejjtiny · 02/09/2017 16:16

No advice but I feel your pain. I'm due on today and my periods are similar to yours.

RonSwansonsMoustache · 02/09/2017 16:21

I'm the same as you - I have endometriosis though. I'm on traxenamic acid for the flow and I mainline ibuprofen each month - starting the day before I'm due and I don't stop taking them until my period ends.

I also get mid-cycle bleeding - the joy!

My sympathy. I've recently had an endometrial ablation and I still get the tiredness that my period brought. I'm going out tonight. Slept until after 9am and slept 2 hours earlier too.

No suggestions on how to cope as Pepsi max doesn't seem to be helping but the slight spotting instead of full on heavy periods has been easier to cope with GinFlowersWineCake

EdinaMonsoon · 02/09/2017 16:46

Sorry to thread hijack but Groovee may I ask you a few questions about your ablation? Did you get any periods at all afterwards? How long did the watery discharge thing last for you? Have read some awful stories on the internet & seeking reassurance really as am 2 weeks post-surgery.

Sequence · 02/09/2017 16:48

If you're taking ibuprofen, you can also take paracetamol (assuming no other reason why not).

I've had very similar trouble. On the occasions I was able to "prop myself up", which certainly wasn't always, I'd probably go for something sugary but plain, such as honey on toast, and drink plenty of water and tea as well. But I certainly wouldn't stay out for long or drink alcohol.

These days, it's more likely I wouldn't go at all, and send apologies... you don't have to go, and I certainly wouldn't want someone feeling ill to feel they had to attend "to be polite" (I used to do that sort of thing but eventually realised most people weren't "people pleasers" to that extent, so why should I be?) Your wellbeing is just as important as other people's.

Look after yourself Flowers

Warm baths really help my periods from hell. You have my sympathy OP. I would also try & eat as healthily as possible because I definitely feel worse & lethargic when I give in to the salt/sugar cravings. Plenty of water too to help the bloat.

Groovee · 02/09/2017 17:05

@EdinaMonsoon have Pm'ed you x

Mushybanna23 · 02/09/2017 17:11

I don't really drink at all it's at my house but it's my sisters friends mainly. so will say hello mingle maybe one swim if I'm quick. Means cleaning up tampon in swim then out shower change should wake me up. Swimming helps with the pain as pools so hot I just float In my ring. Then bed for cuddles with my partner. Houses big enough that I shouldn't hear any noise to much.

Like i say my iron levels are awesome

When they finally checked the reserve it was 6...which is very low

Babymamamama · 02/09/2017 17:40

If you are not wanting to conceive why not try the pill or contraceptive injection. It can reduce or sometimes eliminate periods altogether.

Mushybanna23 · 02/09/2017 18:34

Tried pill and injections made me sick and didn't work having tests currently for other things trying to rule everything out

Not underactive thyroid?

Tha makes me knackered as well

RonSwansonsMoustache · 02/09/2017 18:50

Endometriosis can make you really fatigued too. Do you get any pelvic pain or pain during ovulation?

Sequence · 02/09/2017 22:07

Have you tried a Mirena coil? It can make periods lighter.

Mushybanna23 · 02/09/2017 22:20

Yeah so much pelvic pain having all the tests done next one is for endometriosis.

Have you thought about changing your diet? I used to get really bad periods years ago when I drank coke and didn't eat as well. By changing my diet and exercising more, my periods are now much better and don't last as long.
I also hear evening primrose oil is good too x

Mushybanna23 · 03/09/2017 08:30

I take evening primrose too. my diet is greatish except the coke breakfast was some wetabix glass of water and a banana. Snack can of Pepsi some popcorn.
Lunch pasta salad pluss I nicked a small handful of chips.
Snack half an apple another can of Pepsi few carrot sticks and humus.
Dinner was food from the party sister insisted on no food but mum made everyone ham or cheese ciabatta rolls. Only had half a roll and a few crisps. I defiantly could eat better add more vegetables eat less carbs. But my metabolism is great I'm only 23 and will worry about that in a few years when I need to.

I feel really sorry for you - I have all this, but am in my 40s, so understand missing a party is more reasonable!

Agree re: ferritin. I ended up having 2 iron infusions, and it has made a big difference. The theoretical range is something like 25-200 for women. The hematologist actually said she would always rather it was over 70.mine was 6-22 fire years without a gp commenting.

Meanwhile, I think endometriosis may turn out of your next issue to resolve. If you do, and have some procedure s to clear it up, I understand that is worth cleaning up your diet to help keep it at bay.

I'm too late for advice on the party, but I think you are within your rights to excuse yourself from the party, and possibly the Sunday at work. I do have days where I just sleep for hours and really catch up.

Good luck!

Mushybanna23 · 03/09/2017 10:04

Party was ok I slept well all snuggled up at work it's family run and small so pretty easy I just sit on reception serving customers with hot water bottle.
