WWYD? Injured little cat

BulletFox · 02/09/2017 15:22

I heard a god almighty cat row earlier & rushed downstairs to find a large cat viciously attacking my cat & chased it off. It looked like a Bengal & was a lot larger.

My cat is tiny, elderly, gentle & is now holding her right paw up/limping on it & is clearly traumatised.

The vets shuts at 5pm so I'd need to carry her there by 4pm (it's 5 mins away) but I can't get hold of her & don't want to distress her any further (she's currently under the desk) - should I just try to be 'brutal' as such & ignore her distress & try one more time to get her into the carrier?

Yes do it... she will feel so much better for going to the vets

WhooooAmI24601 · 02/09/2017 15:26

Yes, take her straight away. Our youngest cat scrapped with another and was so, so unwell recently. We ended up having to have biopsies taken of sores in his mouth; a fortnight and £500 later and he's fine now he's had intensive antibiotics but the vet said cats mouths are like the depths of hell for bacteria, so always check it out.

BulletFox · 02/09/2017 15:30

I want to take her but she's crawled into the narrow, deep cubbyhole of a humongous antique oak desk - she spat like mad at my attempt to get her out just now & i retreated for fear of hurting her injured paw

Sorry OP but you have to be cruel to be kind. Get her little self to the vets... mine ended up with an abscess because of this and was really very poorly. Good luck x

Veterinari · 02/09/2017 15:34

Try and coax her out with a treat agree vet is needed

Miserylovescompany2 · 02/09/2017 15:37

Get a blanket - and grab her firmly! Of course she doesn't want you touching her as she's in pain/distress. The vet needs to physically she her.

You can do this..l

SentientCushion · 02/09/2017 15:49

Can you drop a towel on her and bundle her up in it? X

Crunchymum · 02/09/2017 15:52

Bribe cat out and catch her in a towel. Needs must. Good luck.

Floralnomad · 02/09/2017 15:52

Make sure all escape routes are shut and arm yourself with some gardening gloves . Hope she is ok when the vet checks her out .

Anxioustabbycat · 02/09/2017 15:53

Definitely be cruel to be kind and get her. Also I would phone vet so they know you are coming but currently struggling to get her.

SparklyMagpie · 02/09/2017 15:53

Agree with trying something to gently coax her out and then bundle her in a blanket or towel. Poor thing :( or do you have a vet that can come out? ( not had a cat for years so not sure if possible or if they would?)

BulletFox · 02/09/2017 15:55

I tried the towel - it didn't work. Treats aren't working. This is a nightmare, I'm running out of time for the vets today. She's got right at the end of a long cubbyhole (I'd have to crawl along it) & is leaning against the wall.

I feel like I could smack that vicious cat. Sad

Thanks for the support

Have you rang the vet?

Wolfiefan · 02/09/2017 15:57

If she's hurt she needs to see a vet. Give them a call. Many vets do out of hours too.

Cheripie64 · 02/09/2017 16:02

I would let her calm down, obviously very upset, keep her indoors overnight and take her to vets tomorrow, as long as you do, a few hours won't make that much difference.
That's if your vets open on a Sunday, mine do short hours

HighwayDragon1 · 02/09/2017 16:04

Call the vet, explain, they might send someone out. Do you have tuna?

ComingUpTrumps · 02/09/2017 16:22

Hi OP, so sorry to hear about your poor cat :( have you had any luck coaxing her out?

piglover · 02/09/2017 16:32

Poor little creature. It might be OK to leave her to calm down a bit as she's so traumatised. Cats do have wonderful powers of taking care of their own wounds if they can lick at them, even though it would be best to get to a vet when you can.

NicolasFlamel · 02/09/2017 17:23

Will the vet even be open tomorrow? Our local one only does out of hours emergency calls on Sundays which they charge a lot for. Its worth battling with her to get her in today rather than struggling to get her seen tomorrow. Just a point to consider if your practice is similar

JamOrCreamFirst · 03/09/2017 12:44

How are things this morning OP?
