I accidentally took a photo and if I'm seeing what others are seeing then bloody hell I need to hide away. The pores on my face resembled lunar craters. Great big disgusting holes dotted all over my entire face. DH was treading on thin ice. I showed him the pic and asked if this is what he sees and he said yes but your skin has always been like that. Then he comes out with your skin looks alright from a distance and you can't notice it. I'm feeling fugly right now and what I want to know is do these cameras magnify skin imperfections?

I have newly acquired eczema out of the blue in middle age.
There is not a single square inch of my face and neck that is not flaking away.
Am I going to hide myself away?
No I am not.
Maybe that comes with middle age.

Please - you do not have skin imperfections. You have skin.

I don't know whether cameras magnify your skin and it's natural variation. But I do know that directly staring at a photo is going to!

Put the photo down, and hold your head up high.Flowers

Ageing is not fun. The camera was unintentionally close to my face and the whole thing along with DH comments has made me feel miserable.

Most addicted selfie posters use a filter to soften and hide lines and blemishes......

WhatKindOfFuckeryTisThis · 02/09/2017 10:39

Haha one thing I won't become is an addicted selfie-r.

Ageing is better than the alternative Smile

My decorator told me yesterday that she has horrible pitted oddly pigmented skin. I had a stare and I could see the colour variation she meant - I had previously thought she had lovely freckles! And my overall impression of her is 'gorgeous'.

If you start looking at people close up, you'll see that nobody has 'flawless' skin. Even the ones who have caked it all over in make don't - but it needs photoshop as well. Skin isn't supposed to be the same colour and smoothness all over.

And I promise you that nobody notices the way that we ourselves notice.

Notevilstepmother · 02/09/2017 10:50

What magnifies skin imperfections is constant bombardment of photoshopped and filtered pictures.

We all have "imperfect" skin, it we think the pictures we see are normal. They aren't real.

Those pictures are so depressing.
Thank you for posting them.

WhatKindOfFuckeryTisThis · 02/09/2017 11:15

This is true - ageing is deffo better than the alternative.
So the camera doesn't lie unless you're using snapchat filters. Sad My 'holey' skin is getting me down. It's really gross - I need polyfiller or something.

You really don't, though.

WhatKindOfFuckeryTisThis · 02/09/2017 12:05

I really do because this is what it kinda looks like. You need to click on and enlarge photo to see how bad it is. I can't imagine Vs skin looks like this but this is what mine looks like, worse than this I reckon. It's just bloody awful.

How can it be awful if you've never noticed it before? It's just what skin looks like close up.

Ellisandra · 02/09/2017 12:52

I'm sorry, I think I'm coming across as dismissive rather than caring, and I don't want to. But I'm staring at that photo and thinking - what is wrong?

The only negative thing I think about that photo is more neutral than negative - and that's "I wonder what her natural skin variations are under that foundation?"

Ellisandra · 02/09/2017 12:58

You could try re-posting on Style & Beauty for make up tips?
Although I still think that's normal skin. Flowers

EdmundCleverClogs · 02/09/2017 13:05

I'm sure your face is perfect natural, we all have pores and such, and we all age! If you want to feel better, I've recently developed Vitiligo. It's not on my face (yet), but I'm so embarrassed about my hands and legs (and boobs and arse) really wish I'd appreciated my skin before it made me resemble a Jack Russell Sad.

Not at all Ellisandra and thanks for your advice. I probably sound vain but it's just something that gets me down. In some mirrors my skin looks ok-ish and in others it looks hideous and then I take an accidental selfie that proves how awful my skin looks. I did delete it Mirrivan.
Hey EdmundCleverClogs don't be 'embarrassed'. I had to google vitiligo so I learnt something new. It didn't make me feel better - I think it's sad that we feel the way we do about ourselves. Ageing sucks!
