Another parking thread

I live on a private road close to the town centre and every Friday for the last few months a car has been parking on the grass opposite mine and my neighbours' house. For an hour or two while he presumably does something in town. What makes it even more irritating is he parks horizontally, whereas if the residents use the space, they always park vertically. So he is essentially taking up three spaces.

We've put notes on telling him it's private land and tried to approach him - he just walked away as my neighbour shouted after him.

What can we do to to make him stop? I don't think it's legal to clamp him, unfortunately. But could we block him in? Or any other better ideas?!

Haven't even read the op

WHERE IS YOUR DIAGRAM?!!

EggysMom · 01/09/2017 21:08

You and your neighbours park there first? If he has a few weeks of having to find somewhere else to park, he'll get in the habit and hopefully not return.

Alternatively, some accidentally scattered nails over the patch of grass might dissuade him. What a shame you tripped as you were carrying the jar of nails over to your neighbour; and then the grass was too long to find them all, no matter how you searched.

YABSVU for not including a diagram

kitkatspiderrat · 01/09/2017 21:36

who owns the grass area? is it possible for you and your neighbour to park either end of his car and block him in, for a few hours or over the weekend maybe...

mikeyssister · 01/09/2017 21:40

Block him in

Tapandgo · 01/09/2017 21:42

If it's a private road surely he is trespassing and he can get removed with police involvement?

DJBaggySmalls · 01/09/2017 21:43

Paint a chalk outline on the grass Grin

notapizzaeater · 01/09/2017 22:04

i think that horizontal is correct for cars, vertical will damage the bumper and risks falling over Grin

there was a parking thread recently and some poster (wish I'd clocked her name) said that someone was parking on her actual drive to pick up her kids from school. The poster asked her not to do this, the woman basically said 'screw you' and went off to get her kids so this awesome woman got the car jack out and put bricks underneath it; so when the woman came back with her children she couldn't drive off until she'd got her own jack out, and jacked the car up and taken the bricks out.

The poster said this woman never parked there again.

The stuff of legend....

I believe the lady in question owned a trolley jack so the whole process took a few minutes. If you were using your own car jack that'd really take some time..which is why it would be infuriating for the owner...

I have a similar issue although mine is that I live on a private road with parking spaces, some demised, some visitor. We are a short walk to the train station and have no parking control.

Because it's private land the police can't do anything, even if the offending cars park in such a way as to actually block people in, it's a civil matter.

As far as i can see, your ootions would be -Parking control, strategically placed bollards or a really sticky sign on his window that takes ages to get off but won't actually cause any damage to the car. I'm pretty sure you're not actually allowed to block them in even though they're trespassing, but happy to be proven wrong.
