Alarm clock

Not sure this right place to post but hoping for some traffic - I need a very loud alarm clock. Current one has died - sonic bomb which is basically for people who are very hard of hearing - I am not hard of hearing and it still has failed to wake me up. It 'stirs' me enough to make me turn it off but then i go back to sleep and turn it off. Do those alarm clocks that jump around the floor and make you bet out of bed work?! DP usually wakes me (the shame of needing a human alarm clock Blush) but i travel a lot and if i have an important meeting i'm too scared to fall asleep sometimes incase i don't wake in time. Current situation this week so far: eye bags and google history of industrial clocks and lots of sleepless nights on mn. My aibu is aibu for needing help and regardless where can i get itGrin

How much sleep do you get each night? If you get too little, this may be the explanation why it's so hard to get up in the morning.

If it stirs enough to wake you and turn it off, have you tried putting it on the other side of the room, so you have to physically get up to turn it off?

Multiple alarms set on your phone?
Fitbit or similar with alarm vibration?

SabineUndine · 01/09/2017 04:24

I'm deaf and wouldn't hear the Last Trump let alone an alarm clock. I've got a vibrating one that goes under my pillow. It's very effective. www.amazon.com/Shake-Awake-Vibrating-Portable-Travel/dp/B003DQWOBQ?tag=mumsnetforum-21

Have you tried putting one across the room so you have to get out of bed to turn if off? I am similar and use three alarms, one of which is across the room. I change my phone alarm every few nights so my brain doesn't get used to the tune and learn to turn if off.

My Fitbit goes off (it's a silent vibrating alarm) about a minute before my phone alarm - it stirs me enough to make my phone alarm effective!

Have you always had issues being woken up?

sahknowme · 01/09/2017 06:48

I have one of these - really helps me to wake up gently.

Yes those wake up lights are really helpful.

  1. Plug your Hoover into a timer plug and leave it switched on.
  2. Put a £20 note in the oven and set the timer.

I realise these aren't remotely helpful when travelling of course.

Always had issues but getting much worse as i get older - story of my life Grin. Am going to look these ones up now thank you! Phone alarms are like zero events for me - i have 4 phones and even when all set together it's like the sound of a rain or something like that. A standard noise I am completely capable of ignoring - turn all the alarms off on phone when they go off and don't remember when i wake. Something insanely loud and then something that forces me to get out of bed at same time is what im aiming for - 1 on bedside locker thing and 1 on floor. Shit as you can imagine this is beyond anti- social when im not at home and in a random apartment but i dont know what else to do aaaaaargh!

I struggle in the winter so I got one of those alarm clocks that starts lighting up a while before I have to wake. Makes it a lot easier, mine was a Lidl/aldi one
