To not work an extra Saturday?

Okay so... I work 5 days a week 8.30-5 with one in 3 Saturdays 8-4. I worked last Saturday and have just received a message from a co worker saying he booked a city trip and forgot it was his turn and can I come in for 4 hours...

I want to say no. I am dying for a lie in and I've only just done last week. I DO NOT GET PAID ANY EXTRA for doing this. Plus it will be my turn again in a couple of weeks and I'm pretty sure I won't get let off for that. I've ignored the message so far. AIBU to say no? I know my name will probably be dirt but I just don't see how it's my problem. And I can't help feeling that if it was me who'd booked something when I was supposed to be at work I'd just get told tough titty! What do you reckon?

"I already have plans"

Sorted guys. Thanks for your responses!

I said: "Hi. Unfortunately I won't be able to as I made plans. Hope you get it sorted" ... if I said yes I would be actually kicking myself. The only person who loses in that situation is me. He gets out of doing a Saturday, I end up more tired and worse off lol. Maybe if he was someone sincere I would have said yes Wink

If you swap he'll deny all knowledge and you'll be stuck doing both.

This is why the supermarket works for insists on "shift swap forms" have to be filled in and signed by both parties before a swap will be authorised or if one colleague has confirmation - whether email/text/FB messenger/phone call etc - that the other colleague has agreed to the swap (provided it is explicitly stated, eg "Hey Colleague, Can you swap with me and do my 8-5 shift Friday 1st and I'll do your 8-5 shift on Friday 7th? I have a really important appointment that has been rescheduled and I can't afford to miss it" "Sure, no problem I can cover your shift") then they will be required to fulfil their agreement.

Well done! Enjoy your lie in.
