To actually scratch my legs off?!

Help!

On holiday in Spain, just done a quick count up and I have an absolute minimum of 28 mosquito bites, they are driving me insane!

What would you recommend to sort them out?! AIBU to not have bought any Avon skin so soft before I came?

An electric shock zapper thing really helped me.

That, ice blocks on your legs and antihistamines. Loads of them.

SnowiestMountain · 31/08/2017 14:13

I wonder if I can seek one of these out in the 'supermercado' ice you say, we have that, and perhaps a trip to the 'farmacia' for the antihistamines too, unless you can buy them off the shelf here??

Try the hot teaspoon trick? Heat it up in a cup of tea, tap it on the bite, it should hurt but not enough to cause a burn. Should stop the itch. I've found this usually works. Pharmacy for antihistamines. I feel for you.

Miserylovescompany2 · 31/08/2017 14:16

Antihistamine for the itching - avoid wearing perfume as they seem to be attracted to it!

My mother was bitten quite badly a few years back in Egypt - she ended up getting a steroid injection at the local pharmacy.

Branleuse · 31/08/2017 14:21

have you taken antihistamines?

iknowimcoming · 31/08/2017 14:21

Hydrocortisone cream works better for the itching for me than anti-histamine cream. I've recently been told that Vicks vaporub is like magic for stopping the itch - haven't tried it yet but do intend to!

SnowiestMountain · 31/08/2017 14:45

I didn't know you should take antihistamines Blush off to farmacia shortly!!

Don't bother with antihistamine cream just get the tablets. The cream does nothing for me

Sciurus83 · 31/08/2017 15:44

Antihistamines and pharmacy grade hydrocortisone cream

bettycat81 · 31/08/2017 15:50

Turn a hairdryer on them till you can take the heat no longer. The relief lasts quite a while!

The zappers are also good.

Yanbu regarding the avon skin so soft.... I panic bought some before going away and still got eaten!

SnowiestMountain · 31/08/2017 16:23

I have been to the farmacia, I have antihistamines, cream and max strength repellent, and I am also over €20 lighter, bloody exchange rate!

I was the same last year and my dd told me to press my nail firmly to form a cross over each of them and bizarrely that worked!

Gatekeeper · 31/08/2017 16:30

Hot spoon works for me, kills the itch for about 12 hours

SnowiestMountain · 31/08/2017 16:31

I'm scared of the hot spoon!! Blush

ihavenoplans · 31/08/2017 16:48

I second the hairdryer - works a treat.

SnowiestMountain · 31/08/2017 16:56

Just about to jump in the shower, will do the hairdryer!

OP posts:
SnowiestMountain · 31/08/2017 17:24

Just back from Spain and we had the same problem... apparently there's an epidemic proportion of mozzies there this year.....what bloody purpose do they even serve!

Plump82 · 31/08/2017 20:44

Wow ive never heard of any one else who does the hairdryer thing! I dont know what made me try it but it really works.

jarviscockatiel · 31/08/2017 22:27

The hot spoon works a treat! I used it for the first time a couple of weeks ago when I got eaten alive in Borneo. Strongly recommend it.

Get yourself Afterbite

PoptartPoptart · 31/08/2017 22:59

I second Afterbite - amazing stuff.
And get yourself some Deet spray to stop any more of the little buggers biting you

Weedsnseeds1 · 31/08/2017 23:07

Tiger Balm

AugustRose · 31/08/2017 23:10

I was the same on holiday last year and I react terribly to insect bites. I read about putting toothpaste on the bites so tried it in desperation and it did help. Not sure how, it's either the menthol or the bicarb and it didn't stop them itching completely but eased it and stopped them spreading.

I have tried it a few times since and it has been hit and miss, maybe it depends on the brand of toothpaste Grin

SnowiestMountain · 01/09/2017 07:33

I slept much better last night, it seems I'm a antihistamine & hairdryer kind of girl! Thanks so so much
