In a pickle and hoping some of you very clever people may be able to help!

My partner and I have decided to get married. I have arranged this to be on the 13th of October at a registry office. We just need to give notice on the 6th of September, which is the last appointment of this kind of the year and if we miss it we will lose out on our ceremony.

We were asked to bring two forms of ID and a utility bill each for this. I've got these but unfortunately I've just noticed my partners passport has expired!

I can't get hold of the people at the registry office and am flapping that we are not going to have the necessary documents in time for next Wednesday. Does anybody know what we could use in lieu of his passport? I am finding the government website unhelpful.

Please help! Thanks in advance.

Driving licence and birth certificate? Or a trip to the passport office. Does he still have his expired passport? When dp had his renewed it was very quick on line.

Two forms of photo ID? If so ring and ask if it will be accepted even though out of date? If not ask for what they will take.

Isadora2007 · 31/08/2017 13:53

Call in case the passport doesn't need to be in date to be okay for ID purposes.

PatriciaHolm · 31/08/2017 13:53

Birth certificate?

FeistyColl · 31/08/2017 13:55

Expired passport should be fine for id purposes. Phone and check

AnInchWasPinched · 31/08/2017 13:55

When did it expire? I'm sure I read somewhere that if it's within 6 months it can still be used as ID.

Ratbagratty · 31/08/2017 13:57

Oh sorry didn't read you had tried getting hold of them. Does he use photo Id for work? could someone senior in his job be willing to sign a photo like for the passport application? Take the out of date passport too, just grab anything and everything if you can't get an answer out of them!

AuroraBora · 31/08/2017 13:59

I thought an out of date passport was still a form of ID?

KentMum2008 · 31/08/2017 14:01

DH and my passport were both out of date so we couldn't use them as ID to give notice. We both took a full birth certificate and driving licence. My licence is only a provisional and they still accepted it.

Disinterested · 31/08/2017 14:20

It expired at the end of july. I have left a voicemail for the registry office to call me back but not hopeful for this! I am hoping his mum has a copy of his birth certificate as I know we don't have it.

Thanks a lot for your help, fingers crossed on the birth certificate or hopefully them accepting a 2 month out of date passport (not so hopeful for that!).

You could try the premium (1 day) or fast track (1 week) service to get a new passport.

supermangotnothingonme · 31/08/2017 14:30

When we did ours we took birth certificates and driving licenses as DH didn't have a passport. Is this an option?

Nuttynoo · 31/08/2017 14:30

Go to your local passport office and get it renewed in a day.

RainbowPastel · 31/08/2017 14:33

We had never had passports when we got married. My DH didn't drive then either. We took everything we had which they accepted. We took all utility bills, mortgage stuff, birth certificates.

Does he have anything on the list for individuals?

Mrscropley · 31/08/2017 14:40

I used driving licence and a utility bill +birth certificate. I haven't got a passport.
