Long term poster but have name changed as this will out me...
I'm currently on a residential course for work and I'm staying in the student halls of res. When I arrived there were about a dozen wasps on the window. I freaked a bit at this but a colleague kindly helped me to exit them and I bought some spray and liberally blasted my room. Since then I've had the odd one or two (or three) but I've kept my cool and continued to spray the room.
Anyhoo, here I am at 3.30am I've just had to deal with another bastard wasp in my room. I have no clue how they're getting in but I just want to go home (which I do anyway tomorrow).
I'm hoping MN will tell me AINBU and support me through the remainder of tonight as the odds of me getting any more sleep are non-existent...

I'm just sitting listening but hearing them behind my head was enough to get me moving! I've sprayed so much wasp killer in this room I'm amazed that any of the buggers are alive to be honest. It's testimony to the level of bastardness of wasps.

If the bed is built in, there's a very high chance it's in there or even a small nest in the corner of the room, they may have more than one nest. My grandad used to be a beekeeper, would tell him to go sort out for you but the little bugger is watching over me instead, how selfishGrin

Waspyhell · 31/08/2017 05:21

It is a built in bed. I've sprayed all around it and not heard any buzzing for a little while but I'm definitely not trusting it now.

That's horrible! Maybe open the window, they may fly out if they're not coming in from out there..

sprinklesofweirdness · 31/08/2017 05:25

Nah I wouldn't too, you've made it for most of the night. Only got 40 minutes to go. But it clearly means they haven't the inspections yet for the students, and term starts over the next couple of days

fullofhope03 · 31/08/2017 05:25

My bloody computer keeps going peculiar - Have to keep switching in off then back on again! Anyway...yes, they really are TOTAL bastards. Mean and not a decent bone in their horrble stripey bodies! My dear Dad used to tell ask to "think kind thoughts" whenever one appeared - You can imagine our responses! (A fair amount of swearing was involved Grin )

Waspyhell · 31/08/2017 05:29

I'm glad no one's flamed me for murdering the bastards with spray rather than taking some sort of humane approach....

Speaking of bees, you should try this; get those New York bagels (the blue one), some butter and some honey (but good honey, we get ours from back home). You'll be loving bees from a distantGrin

sprinklesofweirdness · 31/08/2017 05:32

Maintenance team would of had to do the same if they found it first. Your just helping them on their merry way. But do suggest to donate to a bee charity.

Waspyhell · 31/08/2017 05:32

I love honey. Wasps don't even produce that. Bastards.

sprinklesofweirdness · 31/08/2017 05:34

Luckily summer is ending now so we won't have to experience them outside where they should be

Waspyhell · 31/08/2017 05:39

It's getting light outside now and the birds are off with their singing. This is a v good thing.

OP posts:
sprinklesofweirdness · 31/08/2017 05:40

I have very dark curtains so can't really see, but no light coming through the cracks. No bird either. Could be because I'm in a highly populated area.

BackInTheRoom · 31/08/2017 05:41

I am absolutely shit scared of WASPS! We had a best in our loft and used to find them in the airing cupboard in the bathroom! This is a place where you find yourself naked and vulnerable 😱. Once I pulled out a towel and it was COVERED in wasps! In the end my H used expanding foam to seal the gaps where the piped came down from thr loft and thought job done but I found one in my bed! Another time I found them circling my bed at night in the dark! 😱. Seriously even typing this gives me the willies! OP you have my sympathy 💐

BackInTheRoom · 31/08/2017 05:42

Ignore the errors in my post! So tired still 😴

tigerdog · 31/08/2017 05:42

I am absolutely petrified of wasps so I think you're doing really well to not completely freak out! A huge one fell out of the loft hatch opening yesterday when we had a surveyor in and I've been avoiding stepping on the spot where it landed ever since, even though it was dead and has been disposed of!

Biscusting · 31/08/2017 05:44

I'm wake too. Bloody mastitis, with a healthy does of fever and chills.

Wasps truely are the king of bastards. Why do they need to be in your face!? And what is the obsession with getting into loft spaces?

Waspyhell · 31/08/2017 05:46

Thanks for reassuring me that I'm not being totally pathetic. I'm just listening for every sound with my trusty spray can close by. The trouble is there's lots of random sounds from the next door rooms. I nearly lost the plot at someone snoring a while ago!

OP posts:
sprinklesofweirdness · 31/08/2017 05:52

It's nearly 6, speaking of which I need to get upSad

Waspyhell · 31/08/2017 05:55

I know! I've never been so happy to see 6am!

Waspyhell · 31/08/2017 05:55

Thanks all for getting me through 3 crappy hours. Just got to deal with getting ready for the day then I'm out of this room for good!

OP posts:
Flashinggreen · 31/08/2017 06:32

One hour til breakfast!

Waspyhell · 31/08/2017 06:40

Yep!!! Smile

OP posts:
sprinklesofweirdness · 31/08/2017 06:55

And I have just finished getting ready, just need to access the bathroom for the final bits

Well done Waspy for getting through it.

FluttershysCutieMark · 31/08/2017 07:16

Glad you made it through the night OP. We have wasps entering a nest under one of our roof slates right under our bedroom window. Bastards, need to wait until winter to see if we can find the nest.

Hope you report to campus services so some poor student isn't stuck with it.
