To be worried about carbon monoxide after a small house fire

Today I accidentally let four slices of bread set on fire in my toaster. The fire quickly extinguished itself but there was quite a bit of thick smoke which filled the top 1/3rd of the kitchen. I opened all windows and doors. There is still a slight burnt Smell in the house. It took about 10 minutes for the smoke to clear out.

Settling down for bed and it occurred to me that there may be carbon monoxide fumes left and im now worried to sleep. I have two small children in the house too.

Is carbon monoxide a concern after a fire has extinguished?

No. Carbon monoxide is the byproduct of incomplete burning.

Don't you have a carbon monoxide detector? It's irresponsible not to have one.

JigglyTuff · 30/08/2017 23:40

No it isn't a danger but you must get a detector

No I don't, but have now ordered one. Im kicking myself really as I had my boiler serviced yesterday as was offered one at the time for £30 but ordered a cheaper one online.

Hmm actually I thought it did occur in house fires and is related to smoke. I think you'll be okay though as the smoke has completely cleared and you've had the windows and doors open. Carbon monoxide kills when you are breathing it in within a small space over an extended period of time.

Open the windows a crack in your sleeping rooms if you are worried. But I don't think ts

Carbon monoxide is odourless - you don't need to worry about your toast fire x

You can buy them at a 24 hour Tesco if you're super worried, but it's fine!

You could of got a Aico EI208 for around 25 quid 10 year battery and with the added bonus of being able to download a report from the detector to your phone showing if its detected co even at levels not enough to trigger a alarm as well as other useful information! Aico are the best in the industry when it comes to home fire and co detection definately worth a look!
