To want an idea of cost

I have arranged an appointment with a non-NHS healthcare provider. It's for a specific problem and is well-reputed but not (as far as I know) available on the NHS. I made the appointment and then realised that the practitioner hadn't given any information on price. I texted to ask and the reply explained that they did not discuss costs until the initial assessment had been made, at which point they would talk it all through with me. I replied to say that I understood but would like to know how much I can expect to pay at the first appointment and I haven't heard back. The appointment is scheduled for Friday. AIBU to a) want to know how much to set aside for the session and b) to cancel the appointment tomorrow morning if I haven't heard back from them?

I think you need to ring them - it's more difficult to ignore people on the phone. Also - text might not have got through. Yes it would be ok to ask how much you should expect to pay for the initial consultation.

Yanbu they need to tell you how much the initial assessment is! Can you call them directly?

I had an appointment that was £220, ultrasound scan that was £550 then follow up appointment was £120. A lot of money! I wasn't told about the follow up cost and the appointment took a couple of minutes. The care was excellent but the cost is frightening.

I'd be seriously considering an alternative provider. They sound like the medical version of cowboy builers.
