To think this just isn't normal?

Extremely sorry in advance if this is tmi... I am in my early twenties and for as long as I can remember I have had a lot of discharge. Like...a lot. I know we all it get it and I know that it changes depending on your cycle (thickness, colour etc) and I think I know what to look out for in regards to abnormal discharge (anything green or like cottage cheese?!) The majority of the time my discharge is very 'normal' looking...clear, white or yellowish. But the amount I get is my main concern.

I have to wear panty liners every day and I change them multiple times throughout the day just to feel marginally comfortable. When I change my panty liner there is almost always a wet/damp patch in my pants where the discharge has gone through the panty liner. (By the way, I'm not using cheap liners, I tend to use Always or Carefree). There have been a few times when I haven't worn a liner and my jeans have gotten damp on the outside, meaning it's gone straight through my underwear and thick denim!

I don't tend to wear them around the house, I stick to pyjama bottoms or baggy/comfortable bottoms with no underwear and the problem is no better. I (sorry) just absolutely soil them. There is just so much. It seeps down the inner parts of my thighs and it's so uncomfortable when I sit down. I go to the toilet even when I don't need a wee, I go to simply wipe away the excess discharge.

This has been happening for as long as I remember. Throughout my teenage years I used to feel so embarrassed of my parents seeing my pyjama bottoms / pants in the laundry because they were always soiled.

I've approached the subject in the past with a few different friends, some completely horrified that I even had to wear panty liners everyday, and some saying that they too get a fair amount but I was always too embarrassed to dig deeper and see if they really did get THIS much.

I guess I am wondering - aibu to think this amount just isn't normal? Is this normal? Is this happening to every female, we just don't talk about it? And if not, is there anything I can do? In my more desperate times a few years ago I remember even googling 'medication that reduces discharge' which is just ridiculous, but this really is affecting my everyday life. I am so uncomfortable all of the time and I am sick of spending a fortune on panty liners!

No that's not normal... certainly not for me anyway. Not at all. I think you need to go see your GP.

Nuttynoo · 30/08/2017 18:10

It's possible to have BV without green discharge - one of the symptoms is a lot of discharge. See a GP

Altwoo · 30/08/2017 18:11

If it helps, I would say I get 2/3 days of discharge leading up to my period that require a pantyliner. This is clearly impacting your life, so worth a trip to your GP.

Devilishpyjamas · 30/08/2017 18:13

Definitely ask for a swab to be taken and tested. I get quite a lot at some stages of my cycle but never that much.

Dancinginthemidnight · 30/08/2017 18:13

It's not normal for me no. I have hardly any. I can't say I've ever asked anyone so have no idea if it's normal for anyone else.

AmysTiara · 30/08/2017 18:16

We can't exactly go comparing amounts on here so go to your gp.

I think that's every substance under the sun mentioned on here the past few days. Blood, vomit, wee, poo and now discharge. How nice. Hmm

bananafanana1 · 30/08/2017 18:18

Is it a urine leak? As per pp go to the docs

PeaFaceMcgee · 30/08/2017 18:19

I have lots of discharge which is caused by a cervical ectropian. It can usually be seen en speculum exam and you can have the cells removed.

PeaFaceMcgee · 30/08/2017 18:21

And sympathies... It's horrid squidging about and feeling that trickle!

Whatsforu · 30/08/2017 18:23

Amys don't read comment on the thread then!!!! The op is looking for advice/ reassurance and clearly finds it uncomfortable without your sarky comments. Op as others have said go have a chat with your gp they will be best placed to help. It does sound slightly excessive.

PeaFaceMcgee · 30/08/2017 18:24

I had silver nitrate cautery 10 years ago but now need it doing again - it's really common - book GP appointment - I bet it's that... Have you had a smear yet? Sometimes the nurse mentions it then...

PeaFaceMcgee · 30/08/2017 18:25

(ectropian is not linked to cancer btw)

Happytobefree17 · 30/08/2017 18:25

How old are you OP? And how long has it been going on? Have you seen your GP?

AmysTiara · 30/08/2017 18:26

It's not a sarky comment. She needs to go to the gp

Oldraver · 30/08/2017 18:28

I would see your GP as it sounds outside the range of normal.

You can use a Mooncup as well

RonSwansonsMoustache · 30/08/2017 18:29

Go to your GP and get it checked. I recently had abnormal bleeding and they couldn't have been nicer in dealing with it. I never felt embarrassed or like I was worrying over nothing. I've been given the all-clear and knowing everything is okay is a BIG relief.

Even if it is normal, the best thing to do is to check. Just in case.

Theimpossiblegirl · 30/08/2017 18:31

I would go to your GP. It might be normal (as in nothing sinister), it might be a sign of infection, always better safe than sorry, you won't be wasting anyone's time getting this checked out.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 30/08/2017 18:31

No one can tell you here.

If you think somethings not right go to your friendly local GUM clinic.
Sorted.

Prusik · 30/08/2017 18:35

I get a hell of a lot of discharge too, op. It's awful. Pantie liners or fresh underwear regularly. I also tend to go commando at home too. I don't think I get as much as you though

Copperbeech33 · 30/08/2017 18:38

I don't get anything like that much either, I know that is not reassuring to you, but you did ask how your experience compared to other people's

NeedsAsockamnesty · 30/08/2017 18:40

I get this when I use disposable liners.

It's a reaction to the chemicals in the pads for me

traffordtimes · 30/08/2017 18:43

How old are you OP? And how long has it been going on?
Both are answered in the FIRST SENTENCE of the OP Hmm!

Peachyking000 · 30/08/2017 18:43

Some women do produce a lot, so it's normal for them, but it'd be worthwhile having some swabs done by your GP and a speculum exam.

Cold cautery to the cervix may help (you'd need referred to gynaecology for this) but it can be painful and cause scarring.

WeShouldOpenABar · 30/08/2017 18:43

I'd get a moon cup for starters, you'll be able to stop with the constant pad changes, you'll also get an idea of volume and proof it's not urine both will be useful when it comes to taking to a doctor

user1499786242 · 30/08/2017 18:59

Normal for me the few days around ovulation
But not all month!!
Worth s trip to the gp even if it's to reassure you!
