To have DS2wear DS1s old uniform?

My sons go to a normal high school. Not grammar or anything. For a blazer and jumper its almost £50. I am on ESA due to poor health.

Ds1 was in year 7 last year. He has a blazer and 2 jumpers here that are still in good nick. Ds2 isn't bothered about it.

He's never really worn hand me down uniform as primary was much cheaper.

He has new shoes/ coat/ trousers/ shirt ect. But WIBU to recycle DS1s uniform.

Part of me just feels starting highschool he should have brand new :/

Hell, yes! Of course you should pass it down. I passed my daughter's jumpers and fleeces down to my son when they were at the same school.

The 2nd hand uniform shop at my daughter's independent school does an absolutely roaring trade.

Of course you should re use. It would be wasteful of money and material not to. Regardless of income!

If that makes you feel better, even in private schools most kids wear hand me down from their siblings or cousins. The only ones to wear shiny new uniforms are from family very keen to prove they "belong". (which they don't)

in state school, no one cares! Kids wear hand me down, new from Aldi or M&S, it could not matter less. I have never even asked any of my kids if they would mind wearing each other uniform. They all got new shoes though.

Totally fine but I do get why you are asking! Starting a new school, first day at high school you want them to look all fresh and not like they are in second hand clothes!

However, you have treated DS2 to new shoes, trousers etc and the blazer and jumper will hardly notice with a fresh wash and iron!

Go for it and don't feel guilty! After a week or so they all look the same anyhow!
