Name labels did not arrive

So annoying.

I ordered name labels for 3 dc. Somehow my house number was not included in the address field, not sure how this happened as I am a keen online shopper and this has never happened to me before, plus I have ordered form the same company before.

So the labels were sent to the following address:

My name
Street name
Postcode

No house number.

Of course i didn't receive the envelope and the company have an attitude that it's none of their concern. as they have sent out the labels on 22 August.

I visited my local Royal Mail distribution center and was told that when the address is not complete mail will be sent back to sender. The company name was stated on the envelope.

So it looks like I lost £35.00 because a house number was not included.

AIBU to think that the company could be a little bit more helpful in locating the envelope and resolving g the issue rather than reiterating that the labels were sent out on 22 aug b first class mail?

So annoyed as i cannot at all afford to loose that much money. Sad

If it's their fault then they HAVE to resend them.

OP made a mistake entering her address. So it's not their fault.

OP - get a Sharpie. Much cheaper and much easier.

JanQuadrantVincent · 30/08/2017 13:51

Also to add I do normally as goodwill cover postage costs if someone has made a mistake, but not if they come in all guns blazing blaming me for their error.

Bringmewineandcake · 30/08/2017 13:53

I'd also recommend nametags4u. Fast delivery and I'm really pleased with both the stick on and iron on labels.

BathshebaOak1 · 30/08/2017 13:55

How did their system not pick up that op hadn't entered the house number? Normally it automatically tells you if you've missed stuff out on an online order form and asks you to add it.
Easy2Name are good and deliver promptly

Grade1Gardening · 30/08/2017 13:55

the law is on your side, you ordered goods and not received them the company needs to offer you either goods or a refund, if you order from any company and it gets lost its the sellers responsibility to make sure they arrive. your covered by credit card they will refund you

Is this right? Interesting. I'll also explore the option of contacting cc company.

Dc1 is designing new labels on nametags4u now. Annoying though as I have to pay twice and I did liked the other company and their labels previously.

Itsall We don't know what address the OP provided. It's possible there is a fault in their system that stripped out the house number. Odd things happen sometimes with form submissions, especially if it's a system that's been configured by someone in a rush or not experienced.

It's likely there's no way for the OP to find out or prove what she actually entered.

OP the company are being dicks not helping you more. It's very poor service, both the lack of concern over your satisfaction and the sending out of an order to an incomplete address.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 30/08/2017 14:00

Itsall We don't know what address the OP provided

We don't, but as it was also incorrect on the confirmation email, the OP could have been aware.

If the web form had be configured incorrectly it is likely there would be a flood of complaints as no-one would be recieving their order.

OP have you tried googling to see if others are having the same issue?

JanQuadrantVincent · 30/08/2017 14:03

BoomBoom they may send out hundreds of packages every day, they are unlikely to have someone checking each address on google maps - not all addresses have house numbers. It IS the customer's responsibility to check - and they should check their order confirmation - even if it goes to spam which is out of the company's control.

I do get that no one can prove that there is an error on the system but honestly it is much more likely to be human error.

Still agree it is poor service though.

OP do go back to the company and ask them to confirm it hasn't been returned to them - if not returned and they don't have proof of delivery (which they won't if sent standard) then say you want a refund as item lost. Then go down the chargeback route if they continue to be unhelpful!

skyzumarubble · 30/08/2017 14:04

Stikkins are brilliant - ordered mine yesterday and they arrived this morning.

Grade1Gardening · 30/08/2017 14:06

he OP could have been aware.
Nope as the email disappeared in my spam folder, which I am told can be related to how their mail system has been set up. I shop online a lot as I haven't got a car and receive daily promo emails or confirmation emails. None of the end up in my spam folder.

Their tone was defensive and they did not offer to help work this out (which ever way). They just keep repeating, we sent it to the address provided, en of. Sad

But that is not their fault either. When you didn't receive a confirmation email, you could have checked your spam folder.

Technically, the company is in the right here I think. But of course it would appear that their customer service is pretty shitty.

Grade1Gardening · 30/08/2017 14:10

I did make them aware.

My reply:

Hi again,
I have visited my local Royal Mail distribution centre and explained the situation. I was told that when mail does not include a house number in the address the post gets sent back to the sender.

I would be very grateful if you could check if the order has been returned to you by Royal Mail or otherwise advise how to proceed seeing that I have paid but not received the labels. It was quite a big order and expensive.

Many thanks for your time and help.
Best Regards,
Grade

I haven't heard back. Confused

Its A problem doesn't have to be consistent. There are lots of ways for things to go wrong with programming where issues only show up sporadically. On balance of probabilities I'd think it was user error, but it's not a certainty.

Jan agree that checking confirmation is important. But think both people share responsibility for confirming address. Company can automate address verification if they send out lots. But an address with no number or house name should give pause if they do it all by hand.

Grade1Gardening · 30/08/2017 14:15

"But that is not their fault either. When you didn't receive a confirmation email, you could have checked your spam folder."
Right. Confused I used a service and rely on it to work. When I noticed that neither labels nor a confirmation had reached me I followed it up. I'd question why their confirmation email lands in a spam folder seeing that other shopping sites don't have this problem. Maybe their system has been set up badly?

"Technically, the company is in the right here I think. But of course it would appear that their customer service is pretty shitty."
yes their customer service is really shitty. They sign off with Name of label company, not a person (or alias), very anonymous and not exactly approachable or friendly. In the end, I can live with loosing £35.00 but I would have ordered labels form them for many years to come. In saving whatever it costs them to resend the labels they are actually loosing out possibly hundreds of pounds over the next few years and this is just my business. I certainly won't be recommending them.

I am not stating anywhere that I blame them for anything but certainly they are not being helpful or even particularly professional. There is no phone number that can be called either as apparently they are too busy dying the summer to take calls form customers. Hmm

A company once sent me a letter to "My Name, Postcode, Town" and it arrived! I was very impressed with the post office, but I certainly wouldn't rely on this.

Have you explicitly asked them to resend your labels (to the correct address)?

Grade1Gardening · 30/08/2017 14:26

Thank you all for the recommendations.

Funny enough the company I ordered from has not yet been mentioned Wink.

"Have you explicitly asked them to resend your labels (to the correct address)?"

yes in my first email

Hi,

I have noticed that there is no house number in the confirmation email.
My order has not arrived and must have either been lost in the postal system, incorrectly delivered or been returned to sender. I urgently need the labels and I have paid GBP 36.85. The money has been taken from my account.

I have ordered name labels from you before and never have experienced any problems.

I would be very grateful if you could send replacement labels as soon as possible.

Many thanks.

Best wishes,
Grade

In my second email actually!

Their IT is substandard. Many web sites don't allow you to type in your address, in the first instance, they force you to select a valid address from the post office database. (This is what happens when you're asked for a full postcode and then select you address from a list.)

Firesuit · 30/08/2017 14:34

It seem extremely unlikely to me that if the first line of an address starts with a house number, anyone would ever accidentally omit the number. It would require a conscious effort to do that.

Firesuit · 30/08/2017 14:38

In other words, I doubt that the address was entered wrongly. It's more likely that they have a really crappy system that requires an employee manually copy the address, and it was copied wrongly. In that case it is their fault, even if the wrong address appears on the confirmation email, as the customer should not have to be checking that for the small chance their systems are so poor that such a mistake is possible.

StarsAndStripes18 · 30/08/2017 14:40

I've used My Nametags for a number of years now and have never had a problem with them.
You design your own label from their available backgrounds, designs and various writing styles and colours. They're available in stick on or iron on.
