AIBU to be somewhat spooked at the military helicopter activity in my area this evening?

There is almost constant toing and froing of military aircraft overhead this evening. I'm getting the heebie jeebies because in my experience this activity has in the past heralded military actions in trouble spots around the world.
I'm thinking perhaps that we might be preparing for "something". I hope I'm wrong and just being a drama queen.

Live near a Chinook base, I don't hear them anymore they are so common. I love the sound they make, but yes, they rattle everything if they fly low

My first Thought was that it was an exercise, friend of mine was in the reserves for the navy and she used to go to bases for Training exercises with all armed forces about this time every year

I live in a Military town and I have to agree there has been a huge increase in helicopters etc this week.

I had a Russian fighter jet fly past me at about shoulder height the other year (was walking round the top deck of a cruise ship in the Baltic) - I jumped a mile. It was quite something Shock.

From speaking to a RAF person (deliberately vague) the public wouldn't generally know if there was increased training in preparation for "something", it's designed to look fairly random.

Copperbeech33 · 30/08/2017 09:07

if there is increased preparation for "something", you don't look at military activity, or messaging, or training schedules. Don't look at anything military at all. Look at the uk coffin production rate.

RonSwansonsMoustache · 30/08/2017 09:11

We have them all the time around here anyway - they often do practise flights or training over the Lake District. I can't say I've noticed anything abnormal over the last few days but I suppose it's designed to look random, isn't it?

True, and the training flights are wide-ranging anyway, all over the place.

Ok, so I'm now completely reassured that there's nothing afoot and can rest easy in my bed again.

I had one fly really low over my house about 5pm, and the night before but later in the evening.
I live in a place beginning with CSmile

I haven't heard one helicopter all week (for a change, its normally numerous times a day/night). I thought they were on summer leave. Perhaps they're just giving us some summer leave Grin

TheFairyCaravan · 30/08/2017 10:31

Pilots have to keep their flying hours up. They do day and night flying all the time.

Military helicopters transport troops in this country from A to B on a regular basis.

I don't even notice them anymore, tbf.

AbsentmindedWoman · 30/08/2017 10:46

What kind of something could they possibly be preparing for, anyway though?

NK won't be bothered pointing his shit at the UK, will he? And couldn't reach?

Who is there potential threat from at the minute?

Lillygreen · 30/08/2017 12:57

frasersmummy yes of course I am aware of this. But what I am saying is that it was particularly bad last night... Hence the thread...

Copperbeech: How would you even monitor the coffin production rate?
