To think that 'unable to offer you a position' is not feedback?

Went for a job interview, they were really keen, I was the only applicant at that time. They wanted me to do a trial, did my trial, all seemed to go well. So I made the journey of a 3 hour round trip to get there and back, TWICE, once for the interview and once for the trial.

Then..nothing. For three weeks.

I eventually email them and say that as I haven't heard from them im assuming I dont have the job but as I really went out of my way and did a free trial, could I please have some feedback.

So i get the shortest email possible with we are unable to offer you a position. I understand it states their position but I really put myself out for these people and this is absolutely not useful to me at all?

I think i just wanted something brief along the lines of WHY I wasnt suitable for the position, perhaps its something I can improve on in the future. I just feel like this is super shitty and gives me no idea for self improvement. Arghhh - So pissed off.

Apparently data protection has been extended so that you have a legal right to have copies of all notes made about you during the interview and assessment process. Not sure of the details. Just have heard of this recently.

Try calling and asking to speak to the specific individuals who interviewed you. You will be more likely to get feedback via phone as it is not in writing iyswim.
