The parents of a 4 year old who stole my 2 year olds glasses off his face and hidden them and refusing to tell anyone even his parents where they are that if they aren't found they will have to pay for replacements.
My 2 year old was playing in neighbours garden when the 4 year old who is alloweded to wonder the street came into the garden and took my dc glasses off his face and ran off with them. I was at doctors with my other dc when i came back asked where they were and was told. Now they seem lost and the child is refusing to tell anyone where they are. Would it be wrong to tell his parent's they will have tp pay if they aren't found?

2yr old not 3yr old.

He also has a spare pair (not covered for repair)

Mrscropley · 29/08/2017 17:35

Well obviously the parents should be able to get the specs back and should be made accountable if they can't.

Wouldn't have thought needed to explain that ffs. .

Sorry Witty. Total wrong end of the stick.

I shall forthwith report hand myself in at the police station for being a pillock. I expect to be sharing my cell with a four year old, wearing poorly fitting spectacles.

But the question is are the parents responsible ? If so, they are liable in law (which can be enforced by a court).

No, they aren't liable in criminal law. In civil law, I guess it would depend on whether they were negligent.

MoiraRosesMeltdown · 29/08/2017 17:39

Whether the OP is entitled to get free glasses for her DC is beside the point. They aren't lost or broken, and she's only in this situation because a child has taken them! I'm apalled the parents haven't offered already.

MoiraRosesMeltdown · 29/08/2017 17:39

*appalled

DearMrDilkington · 29/08/2017 17:45

First of all I'd report the family to ss for allowing a 4yr old to walk the streets alone.

Secondly I'd go round the family's house and refuse to leave until the glasses are returned or they give you the money for new ones.

DearMrDilkington · 29/08/2017 17:47

How did the 4yr old get in your neighbours garden? Slightly concerned no adults got involved before the 4yr ran off. I wouldn't let then babysit again.

Aspieparent · 29/08/2017 18:00

He was at the fence and my 2 year old was at the fence.
Since i last wrote the dad turned up and got his 5 year old to find them and give them back so got them back
