An acceptable thing to do or something to spare the neighbours?

Unless you are Eric Clapton, no.

AlexanderHamilton · 28/08/2017 20:40

Our new neighbour behind us does this. I can't say much as we are a house of musicians & dancers.

Sparklingbrook · 28/08/2017 20:41

Depends on singing and guitar playing quality.

One of our neighbours does it but they are not quite close enough for us to make out a tune.

DorothyL · 28/08/2017 20:41

I wish our neighbour would realise this Sad
Is there an acceptable way of stopping it?

Send the DC with saucepans and spoons to accompany said scourge.

KingsHeathen · 28/08/2017 20:44

Our old neighbours used to do this- acoustic Bowie songs mostly- it was so lovely, I miss it.

Mind you, our other neighbour had Willlie Nelson playing in her back garden one time... can't really top that.

mineofuselessinformation · 28/08/2017 20:47

Join in, in the style of Florence Foster Jenkins! Grin

FuzzyCustard · 28/08/2017 20:49

I can think of far worse things for a neighbour to do.

lunar1 · 28/08/2017 20:49

How long for and at what time?

DorothyL · 28/08/2017 20:50

Just now, but any time of the day really

My teenage neighbor has been doing this today, and had a go on the bongos as well. I think it's great, but it doesn't go on too long, she's also sleeping in a tent in the garden, she's a bit of a hippy.

ShatnersBassoon · 28/08/2017 20:56

I once got bollocked by a friend's neighbour for playing a didgeridoo in the garden. I took it with good grace, and packed it in immediately. Then I left the didgeridoo in a taxi so everything worked out well in the end.

So yes, do ask them to shut the fuck up. People like me need telling.

thecatfromjapan · 28/08/2017 20:57

I'm wondering if you're near me, DorothyL. Our neighbour is out there now. Grin

Really, there's no escape for me. Inside the house, ds will often be noodling on his guitar. His current favourite thing is to come and sit next to me on the sofa, while I'm watching TV, and practise a tune.

thecatfromjapan · 28/08/2017 20:58

The teenager-in-a-tent sounds rather sweet.

EyesUnderARock · 28/08/2017 20:59

I prefer the practising clarinetist and the drummer and the harmonium player that we have in different houses around, to the screaming children and their sodding, squabbling yappy little dogs that we have at the bottom of the garden.
So bring on the bongos and guitar.

Screwinthetuna · 28/08/2017 21:04

Unless it's some kind of metal with swearing lyrics then I'd like it. Life's short and they're having a nice time

Meandyouandyouandme · 28/08/2017 21:09

Yes thecatfromjapan, my teenage neighbour is very sweet Smile

sadiemm2 · 28/08/2017 21:12

You probably live near my dad.Wink We have a thriving music scene in our tiny rural village. Lots of people play acoustic instruments,... If it's disturbing you, ask them if they can stop by a certain time. There are worse sounds... One of my neighbours is a diy obsessive, and not a weekend goes by without them angle grinding or hammering something.

QueenArseClangers · 28/08/2017 21:14

Fuck, we (as in us parents and the DC) have just been playing guitar and singing in our kitchen. The French windows are open.
You couldn't hear a slide guitar and random children could you? worries quietly

thecatfromjapan · 28/08/2017 21:16

By the way, I really like our neighbour playing his guitar in the garden - just for the record. He's good, it's acoustic and gentle and really pleasant.

QueenArse - not a slide guitar in this case.

MaisyPops · 28/08/2017 21:22

I don't this idea that people police what others do in their garden.

It annoys me a little when a house that backs onto us has large family gatherings in the afternoon because they're quite loud and tend to start lighting a BBQ in the middle of the day when every other neighboueing house has washing out (general ettiquette around here is BBQ after 5ish or knock to let your neighbours know to bring washing in).
But they're not unreasonable for having large gatherings. It's their garden.

I feel a bit on mumsnet there's ok garden activities and not ok garsen activities. So children playing, fine but children using a trampoline after 3pm isn't fine.

Having friends round for dinner outside and enjoying a glass of wine sitting and chatting all night etc, fine. But doing any gardening before 10am is not ok.

BlondeB83 · 28/08/2017 21:33

If the quality is good YABU.

Cleanermaidcook · 28/08/2017 21:36

As long as it's not an extremely loud guitar/ noise going on till very late on a regular basis you are bu.

Ttbb · 28/08/2017 21:38

Only once in a blue moon.
