to be relieved that the school summer holidays are nearly over?

I have really enjoyed them (mostly) but I feel exhausted and skint and fed up (with myself not the DC).

I work part time (so the DC were in childcare on those days) but the days I have been with the DC have been really full on and I don't feel like I have pleased either of them some days (big age gap between the two).

I had lots of plans but some most haven't come to fruition which I feel guilty about and now we are running out of time Sad

I always imagine everyone else frolicking their way through the six weeks Grin

At the beginning of the summer I vow to be like Mary Poppins but end up more like Cruella Deville.

I don't want school to start back yet! It's been so lovely having DD home with DS and I. Like a few pps have said, DD has been so much happier and rested. She only does half days as still in preschool but it really tires her out and we don't get to do much in the afternoons. Being on holiday and setting up camp in a park for the day has been brilliant.

alltouchedout · 28/08/2017 17:30

I'm dreading it but not because I want to #makememories or have spent the summer feeling #soblessed or anything like that. I just find the whole routine when we're all back at school and work so hard and tiring, manic mornings, stressed evenings, weekends spent rushing about doing all the laundry and housework and shopping and planning... I really need to see about doing 4 long days rather than 5, I think with a day in the week to get stuff done the stress would reduce a bit. Maybe.

Spikeyball · 28/08/2017 17:30

Yanbu. Mine struggles without the routine of school, there are no activities for children like him and the constant watching/supervision is exhausting.

Basecamp21 · 28/08/2017 17:47

Ha ha makes me laugh - We home educate and hate school holidays we can't wait for all your kids to go back to school so we can have the swimming pools, parks etc. back to ourselves.

It's nice to catch up with friends who school their kids but still feels a bit like we hibernate in our house and garden. Looking forward to getting out and about again.

LuLuuuuuuu · 28/08/2017 17:48

Nikephorus , I hear you

Have much the same here with noise in the garden . Screams are what get on my goat . Kids other side right now are screeching and running up and down the stairs etc . Both sets of parents are off, have cars yet never seem to take them out.

Libitina · 28/08/2017 17:49

YaBU

I'm enjoying the quiet commute to and from work.

JacquesHammer · 28/08/2017 17:51

I'm actually really sad its coming to end. DD and I have had the most lovely holidays.

I'm totally knackered though. Single parent doing lion's share of childcare and work for myself so its been a juggling act

Pibplob · 28/08/2017 17:52

I've actually quite enjoyed this summer. It's flown past which I wasn't expecting (although they are keen to get back to school so I think this last week will drag) I think it will be nice to go back on some ways but I hate all the early mornings and the dark evenings that are coming soon. I hate the homework battle too. Hey, hi! Here we go again!

gillybeanz · 28/08/2017 17:55

I don't want my dd to go back, I'll miss her terribly but have made the most of every minute over the past 10 weeks holiday.
I'm sure if she wasn't a boarder though I'd be glad, just the same as most other parents.
I don't like routine and am happiest coming and going as I please. So, I love the holidays.

FlandersRocks · 28/08/2017 17:56

Yanbu. We've done lots but my motivation and energy has left me in the last couple of days.

I've been off this summer as on maternity leave but having my older 2 plus a 3 month old baby all day, every day, has nearly finished me!

AmysTiara · 28/08/2017 17:59

Aah I'm gutted. I love the summer holidays with no rushing round to get to school and work, no doing packed lunches every evening, no homework.

But my bank balance will improve next week so silver linings and all that Grin

TheHungryDonkey · 28/08/2017 18:04

Another one gutted. We love the holidays. I think another two weeks would be perfect. But both of mine hate school and are school refusers. No pressure, no demand avoidance, just six weeks of fun stuff that they want to do.

HemanOrSheRa · 28/08/2017 18:05

I'm torn Grin. At first I enjoy the easier pace. DS is 12 so pretty much pleases himself these days and is happy sitting around in his pants. I've had odd days off work + almost 3 straight weeks annual leave. I only work mornings anyway so DS is getting up when I get home. It's nice as I can get up a little later and just get myself up and out. However, with one week left I am looking forward to getting back to 'normal' routine. I am a creature of habit really and DS is too.

Notso · 28/08/2017 18:11

Hmm
cardibach · 28/08/2017 18:14

I don't know why they have to have so long off!
halfsack you are aware that British summer holidays are amongst the shortest?

to be relieved that the school summer holidays are nearly over?

No idea why that double posted...

Shockers · 28/08/2017 18:20

I love the summer holidays, but it helps that I have the whole 6 weeks off.

We've (I have teens) helped on a charity holiday for children with disabilities for one week, then had 3 weeks caravanning in France.

I wish we were still there...

WineAndTiramisu · 28/08/2017 18:22

cardibach not sure that's completely correct, France definitely doesn't get 9 weeks (08-07-2017 to 30-08-2017 this year), but the Italian one is correct, I've no idea how they cope!

BeALert · 28/08/2017 18:28

I used to love the summer holidays when I didn't have to work but I just added up my hours and I've done 25 hours a week for the last three months while also looking after 1-3 kids. I still want to take them to all the lovely places locally so it's been a struggle mostly of my own making.

metalmum15 · 28/08/2017 18:32

Nooo i love the summer holidays. I try and get in a good mix of days out, visiting places and seeing friends, with days relaxing at home with no agenda. It always goes so fast, I'm not ready for back to school routine, early mornings, packed lunches, homework and feeling like summer is over and winter is on the way. Eldest is a teenager and I'm well aware there won't be many summer holidays left 😐

God forbid kids make use of their own gardens.Shock

YANBU op. Summer holidays have been okay actually, we've done quite a lot although not everything I had planned. It helps that dp has 2 weeks off every summer so we get a nice chunk of family time and they've also been to stay at grandparents for a few days here and there which has been great. That said its not been without its moments where I have wanted to either run away or tear my hair out!

Dd1 can't wait to start reception though and asks me every day when it's time to start big school.

SecretMagicThings · 28/08/2017 18:38

Miaow Flowers.

You are so not being unreasonable! I love my kids of course but am desperate for more routine and they are ready too. They love school, we are lucky that way.

My bank balance and waistline really need it too!

Hugepeppapigfan · 28/08/2017 18:41

YABU
The holidays are amazing.
I'm a teacher and I blooming love spending lots of time with just my DC!
