Family fund - posting for traffic

Hi,
I have recently realised we meet the criteria for family fund and was wondering if anyone has any more info on this. I have 2 autistic children and would like to apply for an iPad (all of my sons special interests are tech based and my daughter has a love of programming) and a lightweight bike for my son (he has a connective tissue disorder and can't manage a heavy framed bike). Would they allow 2 items? Was the process straight foward? Thanks

I believe you need someone to apply on your behalf, like a social worker or family support worker.

The process is straightforward - an application form, including an assessment of income. I think most first-time applicants are now receiving a visit to discuss the request, so don't be surprised by this. As for whether you'll get both, that I cannot say - we've only ever received one item on each annual application. I don't think you get a double award simply because you have two disabled children, sorry!

We sourced an iPad through a Cerebra grant instead with the support of our son's SALT (the idea being to use it as a communication device).

There's a certain amount allocated per year, so it's not items per se, but a cash/voucher allocation iyswim? I've never applied, but friends have and it's been pretty straightforward for them. I really should apply since we meet the criteria!

The qualifying criteria is a Dla award. So each child with an Dla award can apply.
You can apply yourself no need for a professional to do it for you.

No you don't, you can apply yourself.

You don't need someone to apply for you but your child needs to receive DLA and your income needs to below a certain level I had to send off proof of DLA and tax credits.

We usually get money for a few different items, but it depends how much they cost - they award up to £600 a year in total . It's fairly easy to apply, takes ages for the first application with a home visit (no social worker or any other person involved), but subsequent years are easy and can just be done online. You can make an application once per year so if you can't get both items this year, you could ask for one this year and one the following year.

grecian100 · 28/08/2017 16:01

I had 2 that qualified but was told that it was per family rather than per child. This was about 12 years ago though, as we exceed the threshold.

elliejjtiny · 28/08/2017 16:08

My sons have had things from family fund. It's one grant per family per year. You can apply yourself.

Curious2468 · 28/08/2017 17:28

We get dla and child tax credits so think we are eligible. Will send off the paper work and sss how we go. My son struggles with visitors though so might shout at them 🙈

Cerebra no longer award grants, at least for now.

Family fund will only make an award for one child per family per year, regardless of how many disabled children in the family.

However, Caudwell children are also worth approaching for the other child. www.caudwellchildren.com/apply-support/

Thanks will check them out too :)
