They are everywhere. Neck. Back. Legs. Front. He had some mosquito bites two weeks ago, we all had, he seemed to have the most. Now he is covered in these. Started Friday. Any ideas?

They are starting to crust the earlier Ines. They are a bit itchy. He's scratched most of them 🙄
TBH up close, some look more like molluscum and some have no pinprick and look more like CP

Yes molluscum is contagious through contact with the lesions. Chicken pox is airborne so much more contagious. Molluscum is more of a slow appearing skin condition and spreads slowly too. It doesn't pop up and crust over which suggests chicken pox

Fluffybrain · 28/08/2017 16:32

Could be flea bites. Have you got pets?

stretch · 28/08/2017 16:34

We have a dog. She is regularly flea' and wormed. We haven't noticed any fleas around.

I still wouldn't rule out hogweed... could well be wrong but it looks rather like it... I should know because I get a particularly crap reaction to that stuff...

tobee · 28/08/2017 16:55

I seem to remember my dc's molluscum not being itchy. Also they took months or weeks to disappear when we left them (which was advised) rather than crusting.

billabye · 28/08/2017 17:58

Another vote for chicken pox. My daughter had a v mild case at 1 year old and caught it again 2 years later.

TippyTinkleTrousers · 28/08/2017 18:01

That's chicken pox I'm sure of it.

Poor sausage. Hope he's ok.

InfiniteCurve · 28/08/2017 18:04

I think they look like molluscum, but they really don't appear as you watch.
Also chicken pox spots are blisters,in my memory, the 'filling' is fluid - molluscum are solid...
Sounds like chickenpox.

Ok. I have some more pictures. Only just got home from work. One of the pictures is quite nasty so warning
I knew that the big one was big but I hadn't realised it was so bad. I feel awful. In my defence, he has worn thin pyjama bottoms for three days to stop him scratching and I was more concerned with his arms at the time (they are covered in spots)

First set (not the nasty one.)

My DC got his molluscum (which lasted almost two years!) at the tail end of chickenpox. So it is possible to have both, though I imagine it's quite rare.

Lostmyunicorn · 28/08/2017 23:21

Molluscum have fluid inside too - its one of the ways they spread and why the advice is to leave them alone and not pierce them. They're often a bit itchy but not to the extent that your poor boy seems to be itching. We're veterans of chicken pox (twice per child) and of molluscum here (youngest had them for well over a year) and our molluscum never got that inflamed or scratchy looking. I'd definitely get them checked - they look more like a reaction to something to me than either c'pox or Molluscum. Hope he feels better soon.

stretch · 29/08/2017 13:23

Update. Definitely chicken pox. Dr had a good look. She said the bad ones are infected, so he has antibiotics. She is also referring him to the paediatrician to look at why he's being so ill all the time.
Thank you all for your help! 💐😊

Oh poor sausage. Glad he is being referred though. Low immunity should definitely be investigated.

TippyTinkleTrousers · 30/08/2017 08:54

Also OP, ask them to check his IgA, IgE, and his IgG subclasses in case his has an immunodeficiency.

My 6 year old has deficiency of the of his IgG subclasses meaning that small part of his immune system can't fight off respiratory illnesses. It took operations and numerous admissions and chest infections for them to figure it out.
It only got figured out once I ditched his consultant for another.

A very simple blood test showed what the issue was and that I was. So he went through all of that needlessly.

TippyTinkleTrousers · 30/08/2017 08:56

And get his blood sugars done to make sure he isn't diabetic.

stretch · 30/08/2017 11:19

Thank you tippy I will. He had some simple bloods done, anaemia, liver function etc but not these.
The spots are huge and most are infected and now his leg has swelled. 🙁 He's on some pretty hefty antibiotics now though so hopefully on the mend. 🤞
