To extend kitchen for seating if we have a dining room attached?

We have a small kitchen, around 3.5 by 3.5. Ok size for a kitchen but not big enough currently for sitting. But our dining room is right off it so sit there.
Thing is, should we extend? Id like an island but not a table because it would make dining room pointless?

I'm planning an extension and I've been watching "Big House/Little House", which shows two houses being extended, it gives you ideas and tips.

I like Homes under the hammer as well.

The first thing to think about is what you want the extra space for and how it will enhance the way you use your home.

I don't need or want a big kitchen so I'm adding a utility room and extra sitting space. But some people dream about big kitchens with islands.

Can you knock through to the dining room?

Personally, we have a dining room and a table in the kitchen. The dining room is often unused. We use the kitchen in the cold weather and the conservatory the other 2/3 of the year.

I do think it makes dining rooms redundant but they can be multipurposed. When DCs were younger (needing homework help) we'd do it in there. DS2 uses it for models and lego. We currently have papers on the table where DH is trying to make a large family tree. It's all easily stored away for entertaining / Christmas etc.

Would the dining room be likely to be used for other things?

Cant really knock through due to layout and we'd have to take off the back of the garage to join the two rooms.

We have a study and a playroom separately so it doesnt need to be anything else. I wonder if going out three metres might just make it a bit more roomy...

You're layout sounds a bit confusing. Could you post a diagram?
