So been chessington today
Been a pretty good day a few issues but nothing major
Of course it was busy as you would expect on a bank holiday weekend

But the thing that really ruined the day was getting trapped in the gridlocked car park for , almost two hours

I mean surely this must be breaking some kind of health and safety law

Who can I report this to other Than merlin ?
Health and safety executive ?
Someone else better to report it too

The train station is closed - not Chessington's fault, so there is extra traffic. It's also BH weekend. Which means even more traffic. It's a pain, but doesn't happen often enough to warrant a complete rethink of the surrounding roads - one of which is often used as an M25 bypass so any road rethink would need to take that into account. Adding an extra set of traffic lights could well have a knock on effect on the M25.

Quartz2208 · 28/08/2017 10:20

Car parking did used to be included in the tickets - some of this is the fact that they have made changes to get money! (Live local it was news at the time)

Some of it would also be because the train service for Chessington is down completely due to Waterloo upgrade

The rest is due to it being a theme park and bank holiday

All together its a perfect storm of traffic

Pixilicious · 28/08/2017 10:25

I've lived in Chessington all my life. Why should all of the local residents be inconvenienced EVERY DAY so that you don't have a bit of a wait (diddums) on your way home? Get a grip.

WhamBarsArentAsFizzyAsTheyWere · 28/08/2017 10:28

Lemmings was an awesome game. Just off to see if I can find it on my phone now. Cheers for the reminder op Grin

LadyPenelope68 · 28/08/2017 10:30

Think you're the only lemming OP as the rest of us are sensible enough to avoid places like Chessington on a bank holiday!!!

tehmina23 · 28/08/2017 10:32

At our local hospital the traffic was gridlocked for up to 4 hours!!! Because of 2 road accidents locally.
Staff were giving out water.

Near here this happens quite regularly, you have to plan every journey as the traffic is horrendous.

user1492337624 · 28/08/2017 10:32

What a hideous place to live

OP posts:
Cailleach666 · 28/08/2017 10:33

OP you do know it was you causing the gridlock.

Ithastobeheinz · 28/08/2017 10:37

At the moment the trains are not running to chessington south so people who would have otherwise come by train have driven.
its a not great for the residents who live here either but we accept the way it is.
The road is not big enough for all of the traffic.
And you did pick one of the busiest times of year to go to cwoa.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 28/08/2017 10:38

I was going to come on here all sympathetic and agree that its dreadful and that car parks moving forward should be better and disney have the right idea etc

And I honestly was...

Now I'm not because you are being very rude user

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 28/08/2017 10:39

bibbidee

Quite right

Our asda carpark is awful at busy periods....so i dont go anymore

Would be a great shame to miss out on a theme park trip that you really want to go on for the same reason

insancerre · 28/08/2017 10:40

Rufus, is it because you're a lemming?

Ithastobeheinz · 28/08/2017 10:41

I missed your last comment op if you think Chessington is a hideous place to live dont come back.
I dont think cwoa will go bust without you visiting.

Viviennemary · 28/08/2017 10:41

It's annoying. But you're probably safer in a car park than on a motorway. So no point in reporting.

JacquesHammer · 28/08/2017 10:46

I'm still waiting to see what part of this is a health and safety risk.

What you actually mean is it is a minor annoyance (who wouldn't expect traffic bank holiday weekend?!) and you want to get some free shit out of it.

Lemmings is a great analogy though, you've got the Blockers making it impossible for everyone to get past, OP is clearly a Bomber exploding with ire.

Lovely stuff

ILoveGrammar0 · 28/08/2017 10:47

I still don't understand how it's a health and safety issue. If there's a problem you can get out of your car and walk back. There will be a separate entrance for the emergency services.

AccrualIntentions · 28/08/2017 10:47

Why in the name of holy hell would you subject yourself to something like Chessington on a Bank Holiday? Confused

If you need to feel like you're doing something, complain to the park. It's really not a HSE matter, you'll just make yourself look like a dick if you go to them.

Now what was that point about lemmings...

mydogisthebest · 28/08/2017 10:49

Surely if you go somewhere like that, especially on a Bank Holiday weekend, you know the traffic is going to be bad and it will take you some time to get out of the car park?

It's something me and DH accept when we go to concerts. I think the quickest time to get out of a car park has been and hour and the longest has been 5 hours. No way am I going to be one of the sad people who leave before the end just to get out (usually so many people think that they still sit in their cars for hours).

The worst is probably some of the F1 races. Silverstone is a nightmare to get into as well as out. We have sat in traffic for hours just getting there a few times. Brands Hatch is usually fairly ok to get into but certainly not to get out of.

Basically it boils down to too many people/cars in a small country. I was in Sweden recently and the roads are empty compared to ours

elevenclips · 28/08/2017 10:51

Yanbu op
But attractions just want money money money
Big corporations just shit on everything and everybody
I don't ever visit attractions on bank holidays
Just not worth it

EggysMom · 28/08/2017 10:52

Heck, families were trapped in our Asda car park for over an hour last Saturday due to some really poorly planned road works ... I expect a queue into and out of a theme park

RandomMess · 28/08/2017 11:11

It's always been grim. If you go again you learn where to park (I sometimes used to nip out and move car into a space later in the day). We would head away from Chessington towards Guildford.

We used to stay in the park to the bitter end then have picnic tea in the car.

Pixilicious · 28/08/2017 11:26

Actually it's not hideous and you are very rude. Don't come back, you won't be missed.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 28/08/2017 11:41

insancerre

That would explain why i am covered in fur and have the urge to throw myself off cliffs...

ShoesHaveSouls · 28/08/2017 11:44

I can't even remember the last time I had the urge to throw myself over a cliff visit a theme park on a bank holiday.... Grin

NotACleverName · 28/08/2017 11:47

But did you die, OP?

WhamBarsArentAsFizzyAsTheyWere I loved Lemmings when I was a kid. I was horrible though and would purposely send them into the grinding wheels sometimes. Blush
