To think that accusing posters of being journalists is the same as troll hunting?

I've noticed this a lot recently, and have been (falsely) accused of it myself more than once (have had a few name changes since)

AIBU to think that this is pretty much the same thing as troll hunting? And in any case does it really matter? The daily fail manage to get enough of their material from genuine threads without needing to start fake ones anyway don't they?

I find it really smug and irritating when someone feels the need to accuse someone when there's no real way of them actually knowing.

There is a lot of smug and irritating posters on here.

I've not been on for quite a while and it's a lot more aggy than when I joined five years ago. More random keyboard warriors being total arseholes and more threads nicked by the media.

Anyone else madly ASing? Grin

Also if anyone ends an OP with "discuss" I just think - Fuck Off, I'm not at school.

Notaneasyone4me · 27/08/2017 23:21

sparkling when I first joined and wanted a discussion on something and didn't know MN etiquette or confidante enough I posted with the end line of - 'discuss'

Got told to fuck off.

Well there was no need for that Not. Shock Grin

'Discuss' reminds me of an exam.

It just works better when the OP says what they think then asks what everybody else thinks.

DonkeyOaty · 27/08/2017 23:32

Discuss Grin

Yes we are suspish of discuss type OPs but inversely (conversely?) I feel kinda protective of our journos on here. They're not all bottom feeding doorsteppers.

DonkeyOaty · 27/08/2017 23:33

Not that I'm saying any of the journos on here are bottom feeding doorsteppers

Funkyferret · 27/08/2017 23:35

I dunno. Some trolls are really funny (others quite disturbing), same with "reverses", never got why TAAT is a no-go. But journalists going "undercover" to write a story (often about quite innocuous subjects - not valid undercover work) just makes me really uncomfortable and yes, public forum, etc but all seems quite underhand.

sparking for me personally - I know that now but when I was a newbie was shit scared of being shot down.

Not been on for a while and happy to see we are still drawn to the same threads Wink 😘

Sparklingbrook · 27/08/2017 23:47

When i was a newbie I had no idea there were trolls. I was a very naive newbie.

DonkeyOaty · 27/08/2017 23:54

Awww Sparklers I fondly remember your post-it notes story ❤

BillyDaveysDaughter · 28/08/2017 00:02

I'm still rubbish at troll spotting, I've been around for a year or so. I'm naive as shit.
