The new arthritis care advert - did that Dad just tell his ex wife he couldn't take their son?

So - the Dad has just got out of jail.
Gets a job
Plays football with son
Tells his ex wife ( I guess) that he can't take son on Thursday because he's got a job.
Can't get up because of back pain
Loses job

Tag Line - arthritis affects us all.

I wonder if his ex wife had planned to work on Thursday and maybe he should have discussed it first?

An interesting advert.

He was in prison because he probably couldn't hold down regular work because of the pain!
He tried to go straight- but got caught out again!

I didn't get this ad either!

And on my commute this morning I saw a billboard by the same Arthritis organisation... it was an empty road and the caption said something along the lines of "these commuters aren't affected by arthritis" ?? Confused

On a non-understanding adverts hijak - what's the new Oxfam (I think) advert about? It's something to do with leaving money (I think), but the main female character is wearing these weird blue glasses.

Why? What have they got to do with anything?

PerpendicularVincent · 29/08/2017 18:56

The advert is a complete pile of shit.

Instead of wriggling around in bed gurning he should have called his new boss. Talking to his ex about childcare may have been a good idea too.

I have arthritis and it doesn't say anything to me at all except for how useless this guy is.

My little girl has Juvenile Arthritis, she would have done a much better job of telling people how awful and painful it is and how much it destroys lives.

grannytomine · 29/08/2017 19:48

If he had just come out of prison I don't suppose she had been relying on him for childcare. She might have been pleased that he was going to start earning and paying some child support.

grannytomine · 29/08/2017 19:50

I could always manage to reach my phone to text or ring my boss to let him know I wasn't going in. My gran had terrible arthritis in her hands, they were like claws and when she got up in the morning she couldn't open her hands at all. My grandad had to heat up a bowl of wax? She sat with her hands in it and gradually would be able to open them. Maybe the meds are better now.

My daughter has arthritis and I was 😖😑 the whole way through. What about showing that it's hard to live with arthritis, the medications, the joint restrictions but some positive things about living a life as best you can.

I'm really unhappy with the advert.

SweetLuck · 29/08/2017 20:28

I get you OP! It's the fact that parenting is often seen as optional for fathers. And you'd never see a woman depicted saying 'I can't have the kids on Thursday' unless the backstory was that she is a complete bitch.

I just saw this and am so
Confused. I didn't expect it to end like that.

Is the prison metaphorical?
