To have my fruit and eat it (FWP)

I have a bowl full of "soft" fruit in my kitchen. Nectarines, peaches, plums, apricots and mangos, bought last week. Yet its all "ripen at home", meaning its about as edible as a pile of rocks atm. I would love a juicy nectarine for breakfast, but it doesn't look like its going to happen today.

AIBU for wanting to have my fruit and eat it?

You could try poaching it in some water with cinnamon or vanilla, or cook some in porridge.

Not the same I know, but may help if you just can't wait!

Oh yes, and kiwis. I forgot the kiwis.

Op you made me snort my tea! I feel your pain! But they're very pretty to look at! Grin

They never ripen! I've had things go mouldy and still be rock hard. Ridiculous.

yanbu
I rather buy 'ready to eat' than fruit that is first too hard and then goes mouldy.

btw with peaches you can cut them up small, sprinkle with a little sugar and let steep over night.

Put the fruit in some rice and cover it, should ripen quickly (not quick enough for breakfast today tho)

QuestionableMouse · 27/08/2017 10:12

Bananas make other fruit ripen more quickly.

StupidSlimyGit · 27/08/2017 10:14

Paper bag, wrap them to trap the ethylene and they ripen much faster. The reason stuff doesn't ripen very quickly on the counter is the ethylene escapes too quickly.
Add a banana or two to your fruit bowl if you don't want it covered. Those buggers pump out ethylene like it's going out of fashion.
