What do they look and smell like?

Millieja · 26/08/2017 20:07

No way

CJCreggsGoldfish · 26/08/2017 20:09

Oh blimey, no. Not a month out of date.

FizzyJelJel · 26/08/2017 20:09

If they look and smell normal they are fine! hate wasting meat because people "think" it's out of date and don't know

BlueDecor · 26/08/2017 20:09

Only if you want yourself and your family to come down with very severe food poisoning or salmonella or botulism or dysentery the list goes on and on and...

Margomyhero · 26/08/2017 20:10

If they smell okay i would.

PinkHeart5911 · 26/08/2017 20:10

You can but I don't want any 😷

user1480334601 · 26/08/2017 20:10

If they've been in the freezer maybe if smell and look OK. If not I wouldn't

userofthiswebsite · 26/08/2017 20:12

I'm very blase about sell by dates and happily eat meat/ fish ten days out date but a month is pushing it.

NurseButtercup · 26/08/2017 20:13

No!! Bleeuuurrghh hasn't it grown mold and a bit pongy?

Glumglowworm · 26/08/2017 20:14

Not after a month no! (unless they were frozen before the use by date)

Jenniferturkington · 26/08/2017 20:14

Why risk it? Surely no one needs lardons that badly...

Stickaforkinimdone · 26/08/2017 20:15

A week maybe but not a month, hell no

bounce2006 · 26/08/2017 20:15

no way.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 26/08/2017 20:16

When was the last time you cleaned out your fridge to have food a month out of date? Confused

Lauralou69 · 26/08/2017 20:17

Not a month no, don't risk it!

MassDebate · 26/08/2017 20:17

I did this last week with some which were two days out of date. One ruined meal resulted - the voice of experience says don't do it OP!

PeaFaceMcgee · 26/08/2017 20:18

Anyone saying "if it smells fine, eat it" is ignorant and reckless. The sniff test is horseshit. The bugs that cause foods to become dangerous aren't always the same as the ones that make it start to smell.

If it's been in the fridge for a month after use by date, bin them. If it's been in deep freeze, they'll be fine.

kissmethere · 26/08/2017 20:22

No feckin way OP! Don't risk it. A month out of date!!! Straight in the bin!!

Lauralou69 · 26/08/2017 20:24

Really? I got some chicken parmesan from Marks once and it was 1 day before sell by date....I opened it and it smelled rank but thought no it'll be fine its still got a day but then I tasted it........defo off!!!

LoniceraJaponica · 26/08/2017 20:26

This ^^

The other issue is that the fat will smell and taste rancid, so while it might not make you ill it will taste horrid.

This.

Smell bad doesn't = bad and vice versa.

I so wouldn't eat them a month out of date (unless they've been frozen). I do however eat things which are a few days out of date, so I'm not really anal about use by dates etc.

wohmum · 26/08/2017 23:48

Well that was fairly conclusive ! I definitely wouldn't eat fresh meat that was more than a day or two out of date, but I thought bacon was cured and would have a lot more leeway.
They smelt fine though (so we ate them!)

Boak.

Triskaidekaphilia · 27/08/2017 00:24

I don't stick to use bys religiously at all, but I think a month is pushing it a bit, particularly as bacon has a long date anyway- it must be very old by now.
