To ask how do I go from drab to decent for the school run?

My DD starts school in September. She went to the school nursery for 2 years and to be honest I always felt out of place. My hair is always a bloody mess and my clothes either don't fit me or are primark specials which have been washed 5000 times and look old.

I'm only late 20's but feel like a frump. So I want to change that for September, im going to have my hair cut into something easily styled for the mornings, buy myself some makeup.

What are your tips and must haves for school run clothes? I'm on a budget so most of this will have to be ebay second hand but I have no clue of good quality name brands.

Please someone help me because I'm Fucking clueless 😩😩😩😩😩😩

I'm working on this myself and I discovered Justine Leconte on YouTube and find her advice works.

I just bought a couple more pairs of jeans and leggings and shirts long enough to hide my tummy and a black blazer.

A great selection of hats. Covers all sorts of greasy messy hair days! Other than that a good pair of knee highs and a smart coat. No one knows what's underneath!

What everyone else said. I'd add that I get more compliments on my £29 Zara pleather biker jacket than I do on my £300 All Saints one, so it is definitely not about spending £££.

Coat and boots make the outfit, add scarf (biggish) and hat for the win. A moisturiser you love.
Wet hair in a towel and slippers- amazing, I love it! Fwiw I'm perfectly happy to turn up in sloppy trakkies other days.

Watching with interest...

My uniform when I want to feel nicely put together is thin polo neck, skinny jeans, Chelsea boots and a trench coat. Hair pulled back into a ponytail if all else fails.

No need for loads of make up, I just use mascara, lipstick (hate gloss) and a touch of concealer under eyes/chin.

Lay out your clothes the night before then you're never frazzled and panicking in the morning

Backforgood ...how odd.. Seriously could you miss the point more if you tried? WTF is odd about about wanting to not look drab for a change? School run or not. Were you deliberately trying to make someone feel bad?

Sorry Peppa. I cling on to the hope that a decent ( good condition, I feel good in) jacket or coat and a decent ( good nick) pair of shoes ( albeit nice trainers) cover a multitude of sins. And If your hair is together and god help you, you got some lippy on, you'll feel amazing.

TBH loads on my school run do look shite ( including often me) but I feel better myself if I did get together. Good Luck.

Get It together.

I remember reading an article years ago about getting the basics right and then the rest sort of falls into place.

For example, making sure your hair is cut (and coloured if relevant) regularly. Keep your nails nice (you don't need to spend £££, I get Rimmel nail varnish from Boots and do my own, clear on fingers, and a nice colour on my toe nails).

Then products which save time - a moisturiser with an SPF - maybe also a tint, I don't like tinted moisturisers but lots of people do. Combined shampoo/conditioner can also be good if they suit your hair.

I don't really bother with make-up - eyeliner, mascara and I use a lip crayon rather than lipstick.

A nice pair of sunglasses is good for your eyes and also gives you somewhere to hide behind.

I get most of my clothes in Fatface, maybe see if there's anything on ebay from there? Also Phase Eight - I get most of my work tops from there when they are in the sale.

I'm not too bothered but I do like to look clean and tidy
Good coat helps as nobody knows what I've got on underneath
If you want a few new things try a big Sainsbury's, their clothes are really good if you are on a budget and they group things together well so you can plan a wardrobe if you want to

My uniform these days are Primark jeans (I love the high waisted ones they hide my mum tum), plain Primark t-shirt and a flannel shirt worn open. If it's cool I have a fake leather biker jacket and either wear boots or converse style flats. Hair is always a pony tail, make up bb cream, mascara, eyebrows and blusher.

I dont always feel nice, I have days where my hair is in need of a good wash but I just didn't get time that morning so wait till after the school run but overall I like the simple look.

Camomila · 05/09/2017 14:11

I also love the primark jeans, they hold their shape really well IMO.

I would make yourself a uniform for ease in the mornings....mine is roughly converse/ankle boots, skinny jeans, floaty or stripy top and a plain dark cardigan. Doesn't require much thinking and I look neat.

I like doing a quick side plait for days when my hair needs a wash!
