I've had the implant before, it was fitted about a year after I had dd1, had it for almost 3 years with no issues. It was removed in August of 2015 and I had dd2 in January 2017. Dd2 was ebf, but despite this I'd had some random bleeding, almost like my period was starting but it never got going, so to speak. Anyway, I went ahead and had the implant fitted in April and had no issues for a while. I finished bfing in June and a month after that, I got a period that lasted for 4 weeks. It stopped last week only to restart again yesterday. I had no periods on the implant before. I'm wondering if this is all down to my hormones settling after finishing bf or if i need to see the doctor about getting it removed. Or will it just settle down? Im finding that I feel very tired and low with being on a constant period. Im also worried because I cant use any other form of hormonal contraception. The pill makes me unbalanced and depressed and I've been advised against a coil due to having a clubbed ovary.

I had the implanon inserted 9 years ago after my first DC. I'm afraid it wasn't a success and I bled most days. My GP put me on cerazette to stop the bleeding, but it started again as soon as I tried to come off it, so I had the implant taken out and went on cerazette on its own instead. That suited me much better.

It is worth asking the GP if a trial of the mini pill/ cerazette would help the bleeding and then you could come off it to see if that sorted things. That was definitely what I was hoping for, but I knew there was a chance it wouldn't work. An implant is less hassle than remembering pills, for sure!

I've been on it for 10 months now and my last period lasted 8 weeks. I have requested 4 times to have it taken out as I have had nothing but problems which only started with getting the thing in the first place, if my next request is turned down I will be removing it myself, I don't think it's worth the hassle. On a lighter note it's a very good contraceptive because with all the bleeding you don't have sex!

I can't have any form of pill. The emotional effects are unbearable. I'm really gutted as I was fine the first time around. No periods, no issues at all. I was hoping it was because of stopping bf to be honest. I was fine for 3 months. Now this. Gah.

Hi op, I had implanon inserted few years ago as I didn't get on with any pills, awful moods etc..straight away I found I constantly bled, felt bloated, persevered for 8 months as GP kept saying it takes up to 3 months to settle down, it didn't.
Had a nightmare getting it taken out at docs, felt it despite local anaesthetic, took ages.
I wish I had never had it as several months after removal I noticed dark patches on my face, went to GP, confirmed as chloasma which is over production of melanin in skin and she said its a known side effect. So now, even years later I can not sit in the sun as any kind of heat/burn makes it worse. I dont ever go out without makeup as very noticeable. The long term effects of the implant aren't really known. I've had all sorts of problems hormone related since I had it. GP said thing with it really is that it doesn't regulate the hormones it releases into your body, everyone reacts differently.

Agree with this. No surprise babies here!
