to expect people to pay me when they are supposed to?

Pupil finally paid this week for this terms lessons - and next week he gets a bill for next term! So that's 9 weeks late.

Would it be unreasonable to add a line to his bill that says no lessons will be given if payment has not been made?

not unreasonable at all!

Not unreasonable at all, would expect to pay for lessons in advance.

Another couple of people telling me I'm not unreasonable and I will add the bill to my bag.

I'm a cm, and charge £5.00 per day late payment slightly different but certainly wouldn't give lessons that wasn't paid for

Do it. YANBU

My hubbie is a Golf Pro and will only give lessons with payment - why would it be any different for you? You don't go into NEXT, pick up some jeans and tell them you will pay them next time you go in.

Go for it.

I read about this a lot on the childminders threads.

I would never dream of paying someone late, its either p*poor planning or a complete lack of respect.

I don't know what it is you teach but I guess it must be some sort of extracurricular activity in which case the parents can't exactly be on the breadline to have signed up for them. Add the line in and have a think about what your strategy will be if they still don't pay.

This term I still taught him but used up a large proportion of his lesson each week calling his mum to tell her she needed to get a cheque into school.

My biggest problem is that if I don't teach him, I would still have to charge for the lesson I didn't teach which would be extremely difficult to enforce.

The best solution would be to simply replace him with someone else, but they do pay eventually.
