AIBU to want to look younger and fresher for just 24 hours?

It's DD 's wedding tomorrow and I've been so busy helping her and her fiance with stuff that I've rather neglected myself.
I'm 59 and look every inch of it.
I've got a nice flattering dress to wear but can anyone recommend a quick fix brightening product to slap on the face to make me look less weary?

I feel I'm going to look dreadful compared to groom's mother who is 10 years younger and my ex's wife who is 15 years younger.

Hopefully everyone will be too busy looking at bride to notice me!

I just want to look better for one day even if I look haggard on Sunday...

There is a fresh face mask by Lush called Ayesha which is made for exactly this purpose.

Kochicoo · 25/08/2017 13:49

Certain sheet masks (the more expensive ones) really do make your skin look temporarily better/plumper/brighter. Can you get to shops selling high end brands or just smaller local ones and I can maybe recommend accordingly.

Justbreathing · 25/08/2017 13:50

I saw an advert for instant skin lift serums, just work for the day, but might be worth a try. lots of brands seem to do them. and something called my perfect eyes. good for a special event as long as you don't blub!!

Are you getting your hair and make up professionally done?

Don't do anything too drastic as it might give you a skin reaction.

plumstone · 25/08/2017 13:52

If you can get to a boots, then the Brand called "Indeed" do sheet masks, as PP said. DO one tonight and one tomorrow morning, and then stick a couple of teaspoons in the freezer and when the mask is on tomorrow morning place them over your eyes so they are resting on eye bag area (not saying you have eyebags!) and give it 15 mins.

Hi - lots of stuff on the 'style and beauty' forum. Search ' Clarissa beauty flash balm as a primer under foundation...some swear by it, some hate it. And there are other products that get a mention. Lots of 'illuminators' out there. How about tinted moisturiser...does great things.

Have a great time at the wedding.

Hillfarmer · 25/08/2017 13:56

Sorry - it's CLARINS beauty flash balm!

WarmFeetAreLovely · 25/08/2017 14:00

Thanks all
I can get to a Clarins pretty easily. Also Boots isn't too far.

Shame they don't give out bags anymore, I would pop a paper one over my head

Second Clarins Beauty Flash Balm and some nanoblur too.

Have you got time to get a proper make up session done at a department store?

Have a lovely day - happiness will radiate whatever and you'll look lovely 😊

WarmFeetAreLovely · 25/08/2017 14:12

I don't really want to have someone else do my makeup, as then I won't look like "me" !

Hair is my best feature so it's ok!

I haven't tried the Clarins sheet masks but I'm sure they're very good because most of their products are. Agree with the Flash Balm recommendation.

Estee Lauder and Lancome sheet masks are excellent.

Apparently (I haven't tried them but Salli Hughes recommendation, which are usually quite good), larger Boots sell Indeed Labs Hydraluron masks which are meant to be good at plumping etc.

You may have used sheet masks before but if not, the instructions often say leave on for 10-15 minutes but i always find you get much better results leaving them on for 30 minutes - unless of course they're stinging or anything.

Hope you have a wonderful day!

Justbreathing · 25/08/2017 14:29

maybe not get someone to do your makeup, completely. but a properly applied base can work wonders. Even if it's not foundation heavy, which doesn't suit me for instance. Takes years off.
might be a bit late for that, but at the counter in a dept store they might be able to help.
Sometimes just the way you apply something you use everyday can make a huge difference

Nettletheelf · 25/08/2017 14:39

When I saw the title of the thread I was hoping it was going to be Countess Elizabeth Bathory checking that it wasn't unreasonable to bathe in the blood of virgins before a ball. I feel mildly cheated.

I second the 'getting your make up done professionally'recommendation. Don't go to the Clarins counter for that, though! Their assistants always look as if they trowel it on.

WarmFeetAreLovely · 25/08/2017 14:54

Nettletheelf That's plan B, but I'm having trouble finding the requisite number of virgins.
Plus our bath is full of champagne bottles...

Well, keep it in reserve in case the sheet masks don't work out!

Have a lovely time and I'm sure that you will look great.

mscongeniality · 25/08/2017 15:57

Drink lots of water over the next 24 hours, cut down caffiene and get some good sleep. Also put some cucumber slices over your eyes - they really make a difference!

putdownyourphone · 25/08/2017 15:59

Glamglow youth mud - amazing stuff!

Babbitywabbit · 25/08/2017 16:00

Yes, drink lots of water, fresh air and early night tonight. But the most important thing is to smile and relax- people will notice how happy you look more than anything else

motherinferior · 25/08/2017 16:32

Sheet masks are fab. Even the cheap(ish) garnier one. Good luck!

WarmFeetAreLovely · 25/08/2017 21:33

Hello all.
Boots didn't have the Indeed mask but I have bought the Garnier one which I've just taken off.
And it might be wishful thinking but I think the old face looks a little perkier.

But you're right- a smile is the best thing to improve one's face!
Thanks
