I'm a riding instructor and saw an advert for full time instructor wanted. In this industry, any interviews/job trials are very informal and it is just sort of turn up for an informal chat/wander round and then see where it goes.
This is a fairly big establishment with a lot of business, the place is run like clockwork and has to be to accommodate everything that is going on. This is why I am struggling to understand why they have behaved this way.
So I went for the initial chat/wander round - all good. Told me how desperate they were and needed someone to start asap as they had staff leaving imminently.
They asked to do some trial lessons so they could watch and assess which was fine. Now this place is a huge drive from me so not an easy, just popping down the road jobbie.
The lessons went well, I had a great time and enjoyed my time there, felt right at home.
They say they will be in touch when the manager has returned from holiday and we leave on good terms.
Its been almost three weeks and I havent heard a thing! The manager was definitely NOT on holiday for three weeks. Now, I'm well aware they may not have liked me/my teaching or whatever but this was not a job situation with a lot of candidates applying. This was literally just me, actually doing them a favour by teaching some of their lessons FOR FREE! I'm absolutely fine with the fact that i may not have been the right fit for the job, but to have been left completely hanging is really bad etiquette.
Surely they would have the decency to at least call or email me to say thanks but no thanks. I feel it is hugely rude and cant believe they run this successful, busy, popular establishment and then treat people like that. It just doesnt fit and feels weird?
My family keep telling me to call them but i feel really strongly about not chasing up these kind of situations. I think the message is clear and to not call me from their side means they dont want to employ me.
Please settle the argument, would you chase it up or take the hint?
