Kids in nappies in soft play!

MoyraLanterns · 24/08/2017 22:21

Took DCs to soft play today and saw 3 toddlers/children running around in just a nappy and a top. They were from seperate families and all around 2-3 years old.

I completely get potty training is difficult and when training DC1 he would wander round in a pair of pull ups or no nappy when AT HOME but at a soft play?!

They were climbing about and going up and down the slides wearing obviously full bulging nappies and I felt quite uncomfortable thinking how unhygienic it was and what would happen if it leaked/fell off!

I have since seen a post on social media of a school friend who has taken photos of her DCs at another local play area and her toddler is doing the same. I just dont get it!

Would you rather the non potty trained child went on soft play without a nappy?

TeenTimesTwo · 24/08/2017 22:24

Presumably they aren't potty training (as they wouldn't be in nappies).

So are you complaining about the lack of leggings, the fact the nappy was full, or nappies in general?

Blazedandconfused · 24/08/2017 22:25

Soft plays are disgusting unhygienic hell holes.

Imaginosity · 24/08/2017 22:26

I wouldn't like that either. Not hygienic. Seems lazy too - why not throw on a pair of shorts.

TuddlesAndSisses · 24/08/2017 22:26

If you're worried about hygiene I suggest you avoid soft play in general, whatever the kids are wearing

MoyraLanterns · 24/08/2017 22:27

My issues isn't with nappies Hmm

A bare nappy, with no clothes wiping up and down all the slides bursting at the seams is pretty unhygienic and I just don't see the logic. It would take all of 2 seconds to pull some clothes on top.

Problem with boys clothing sometimes is jeans are quite restrictive for little legs with climbing etc so it's much easier to take them off if you forget to put jogging bottoms or soft trousers on.

ChocolateRicecake · 24/08/2017 22:28

Can't say nappies-only per se would bother me, but if they are obviously full and need changing I'd feel sorry for kid.

Ecureuil · 24/08/2017 22:29

I'm confused... what has potty training got to do with it? Surely if they were wearing nappies then they weren't potty training?

Fitzsimmons · 24/08/2017 22:29

Was it hot in there? Their parents may have been trying to keep them cool. Soft plays are gross places anyway so I'm not sure it would have made much difference if they wore clothes or not.

Maryann1975 · 24/08/2017 22:29

Is this not similar to a child wearing a dress with nothing under it apart from a nappy? Quite often the dress or skirt wouldn't be under the child's bottom on the slide so the same thing. Do you have the same problem with that or is it just if they aren't trying to cover the nappy?

DesignedForLife · 24/08/2017 22:30

Seems odd but no more unhygienic than kid with trousers on having an accident

MoyraLanterns · 24/08/2017 22:31

A couple of the children had the pull up pants type nappy so I assumed possibly the reasoning was ease if they wanted the toilet?

Yep jeans can be uncomfortable but thats why when you take your DC to a soft play you put them in soft clothes/leggings or even just in general with a young toddler.

Out soft play wouldn't allow it, I do remember my fully potty trained dd who was 3 at the time did a wee in soft play! I cleaned it up got the staff to give me spray etc, but I got some pretty nasty remarks from other parents.

Ellieboolou27 · 24/08/2017 22:34

*our

CorbynsBumFlannel · 24/08/2017 22:35

I wouldn't have done it but I couldn't get worked up about it.
The amount of kids that must have accidents and slide up and down the slides in those places you wouldn't go if you worried too much about hygiene.

CorbynsBumFlannel · 24/08/2017 22:36

I would assume the child was hot or had spilt something on their trousers. No biggie really.

becotide · 24/08/2017 22:46

Oh god it doesn't fucking matter

Terramirabilis · 24/08/2017 22:46

People are ridiculous Ellie. It's not as though you planned it, and small children aren't exactly the best at communicating when they need a wee.

gandalfspants · 24/08/2017 23:09

If their parents were leaving them in a obviously full nappy that's grim. But, I imagine there are times when the nappy was clean on and then fairly full a bit later without the child wanting to stop playing and the parent might not have noticed yet (how closely supervised were they)?

I couldn't get worked up over lack of trousers, if the nappy is leaking a pair of leggings isn't going to save you from the germs.

(If DD's nappy isn't covered she has a habit of removing it, so she'd be wearing something over it, but I guess not all children are like that)
