Just been completely screwed by booking.com

I am furious. I used the booking.com website months ago to book 2 twin rooms for 4 adults. £600 for 2 nights (it's in the centre of major European city). Got the confirmation. Just phoned the hotel to double check that the rooms are twin beds as the people concerned can't/won't share beds, but I've been told that the reservation had come through as 2 queens. Hotel won't change the rooms and will only provide put up beds for another 240 euros or I can pay 200 more to upgrade to room types with twin beds.

Booking.com have told me that a twin bed room is just a 'special' request and it's tough shit.
I have been through the booking process again on their website and next to the room type if gives you the option to choose twin beds. Nowhere does it say "ha - this is a joke - you only get twin rooms if you pay to upgrade - 200 more smackers please!"
I will never book with them again.

Do you not have free cancellation up until the day of arrival?

ZaraW · 24/08/2017 16:15

Same thing happened to me when booking last year. I didn't check with the hotel beforehand and was surprised to have a double bed. The hotel said it wasn't guaranteed even though I did request a twin room when booking. Seems to be the hotel's fault more than booking.com

BookingDotComAreTwats · 24/08/2017 16:17

Free cancellation depends on the booking type you make - you get a cheaper rate if you pay in advance.

BookingDotComAreTwats · 24/08/2017 16:18

It has happened to me before but I hadn't realised that is was due to Booking.com selling twin rooms that they can't guarantee. I thought the hotel had made an error.

In experience booking from the hotel directly is often cheaper then booking.com.

DodgyGround · 24/08/2017 16:19

I'm with you OP. It reads as though you get what you've requested and i can't see any small print to click, which may offer a different view. It's misleading. Is it legal?

piglover · 24/08/2017 16:27

Booking.com lost my booking entirely the other week. I had the bit of paper stating my reservation but the hotel had no record whatsoever and had to stick us in a different type of room. I may not use them again.

BookingDotComAreTwats · 24/08/2017 16:28

It's just out and out dishonest. For most people the bed layout is critical. You may be willing to share a room with a lot of people, but not a bed.

Been a few booking.com bashing threads recently by new users

Expedia social media team?

I always use them and have never had an issue

BookingDotComAreTwats · 24/08/2017 16:30

No - I'm not from Expedia. Or Opodo. Or lastminute.com GrinGrinGrin
But you made me laugh!

I used them to book the only hotel I've booked online in years - earlier this year. Never again.

Do call them though - I did speak to a lovely chap in a call center somewhere who eventually sorted me out.

Nuttynoo · 24/08/2017 16:36

Contact Booking.com ceo personally. Should sort it out.

BookingDotComAreTwats · 24/08/2017 16:36

Noooooo....
You're supposed to commiserate with me! Not come on the thread and be all reasonable and tell us about your good experience.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 24/08/2017 16:38

I've had the same problem. I now always contact the hotel first. I can't share a bed - I'd never sleep!

ZaraW · 24/08/2017 16:38

But the hotel will tell booking.com what rooms they have available, if your request isn't honoured then the blame is with the hotel?

BookingDotComAreTwats · 24/08/2017 16:38

No way this lot will share a bed.
I have paid the extra to get the upgrade to twins. Which is why I am so cross - I am £200 extra down on the deal.

A friend of mine booked a hotel through booking.com for an event last weekend and specifically chose one that was walking distance so he wouldn't have to battle for, and fork out for taxis.
Gets to hotel after event - nope. He's been bumped. To a sister hotel 10 miles away along a motorway. He's complaining but basically been told 'tough cheese'.

There is small print somewhere that says requests can't be guaranteed and this is covered under that. Use hotels.com next time, they're better.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 24/08/2017 16:40

We use them quite a bit. Never had an issue although probably cursed that now

Does seem daft that you can select twin but not get it though.

sunglassally · 24/08/2017 16:41

Myself and my sister go away a few times a year and always got what we booked, a twin room.

Surely if you have booked a twin you should get one at no extra cost.

Anyway, I usually do the research on the hotel sites and book through the hotel direct. Their confirmation is gold.

But have had no problems with Booking.com either when in a hurry!

BookingDotComAreTwats · 24/08/2017 16:43

Booking.com sent the booking through to the hotel for 2 queen beds, with a note in small print at the bottom saying 'twins please if possible'.
It is Booking.com's fault for not making it clear on the website that I wasn't booking a twin room, just requesting one. It is the hotel's fault for being bloody minded and refusing to allow a cancellation or put spare beds up in the room without charge. 60 euros a night for another bed. That's insane - another 240 euros on the booking. The upgrade has cost 50 per room per night, so 200 in total.
