Booked and paid for online for two new tyres for DH's v sporty BMW to be fitted at Black Circles fitting centre on local industrial estate. DH took car at agreed time and they told him that only one tyre had come in and that he should leave car with them and they would sort it. DH walked nearly 2 miles home and waited for their call for him to come and collect his car. They didn't ring so he called them. They said second tyre would not be delivered until the following morning and his car would be ready for collection at 10am. He walked to centre next morning and collected his car. He has just told me that that car had half a tank of fuel when he dropped it off and now the display is saying he has 15 miles left. He thinks someone has been driving it. Should he report this to police? He thinks he should leave it but put a really bad review on on Black Circles site. I think he should report it to police incase someone has commited any driving offences or even crimes Shock He thinks I watch too much telly Hmm

I'd say it was worth a 101 call yeah. Cheeky sods!?

TheKidsAreTakingMySanity · 24/08/2017 01:32

I probably would report it. You have no way of knowing what the car was used for. It could have been used in a crime, been photographed speeding, incurred parking fines or anything. I would also call up the garage and ask for an explanation. If no acceptable reason is given, review them EVERYWHERE. Facebook, twitter, yell, local sales pages, everywhere. Businesses can really suffer from bad online reviews and they sound like they deserve it.

KeepServingTheDrinks · 24/08/2017 01:33

I'd report and log this as well. If it WAS used inappropriately and is on CCTV, he could get into big loads of trouble.

sharklovers · 24/08/2017 07:23

I think it depends on the car really, it may or may not be something that people want to joy ride. Garages also have a habit or leaving cars running for ages!

2wild · 24/08/2017 07:32

Ring the manager, tell them the facts and that you want to know who was driving your car and a refund for your fuel or you'll ring the police.

honeysucklejasmine · 24/08/2017 07:35

Sounds like someone wanted to take it out for a skin last night so told some porkies about the tyres.

honeysucklejasmine · 24/08/2017 07:35

spin not skin.

PoppyPopcorn · 24/08/2017 07:37

Log it with Police.... yeah right. In that mythical log of all the things that Mumsnet thinks the police should be aware of, just in case. Hmm

Agree with 2wild - you phone the manager, explain the facts, tell them you are expecting a refund for the used fuel and are not impressed that the mechanics have been going for a spin in your car. If no joy, escalate to Head Office. And then you never use that garage again and tell your friends not to either.

FairfaxAikman · 24/08/2017 07:37

Always photograph the mileage when leaving a car at a garage. A couple of miles to account for test drives is fine, much more not so much.

newdaylight · 24/08/2017 07:40

Review the specific garage, not the blackcircles website...i think they supply independent garages. Worth letting black circles know though and they might stop their relationship with the garage

TheMaddHugger · 24/08/2017 08:06

Definitely report it. if they got any fines while driving you will need proof it wasn't in your possession

And It may save another customer from something worse in the future.

chickenowner · 24/08/2017 08:57

I agree, report it in case you get a speeding ticket!

araiwa · 24/08/2017 09:10

Id go back to the garage and speak to the manager.

What a waste of police time to report it to them

t3rr3gl35 · 24/08/2017 09:28

Please complain directly to Blackcircles. Trust me, they will want to know if there are any issues and will deal with the garage on your behalf. They treat customer complaints very seriously.

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 24/08/2017 09:30

I don't think this is a police matter.
I would definitely call the companies head office if they have one

solarisIsAClassic · 24/08/2017 09:35

DH is right.

You don't need to prove it wasn't in your possession in the case of any crime. That's basically the opposite of how the law works in our country.

I would speak to the manager and likely leave a bad review (depending on the result). Does it have any kind of tracking? Any newer sporty BMW should. It depends how far you want to take it and if anything can be proven.

BusterGonad · 24/08/2017 09:37

Log it with the police! 😂

SantanicoPandemonium · 24/08/2017 10:08

I had the same thing happen to me a few years back, I didn't report it a crime but I did contact the police to let them know I suspected someone else had been driving my car and the times. They couldn't do anything as I didn't have proof, but had the car been caught speeding or anything I would have had a bit more leeway to argue fines etc.
