To ask for heat remedies

Since having DD 4 months ago I've been unable to control my inner temperature. I know it's been hot and unbearably muggy at times but I am hot all the time. I get such a sweaty face I can't wear makeup anymore. I've gone back on the pill for contraceptive and hormone control purposes (not breastfeeding) but that's not working.

Doc says nothing is wrong it's just how I'm wired now and I'll be ok in cooler weather. But I think I need a bit of help. Anyone been through this or having menopausal hot flushes (This seems similar) got any tips? Herbal remedies? Thanks!

Sounds like your hormones are returning to normal. Try sticking your feet under cold tap of a nighttime for few seconds should help you get to sleep.

I sleep fine and so does my DD so no problems there. It's during the day I'm struggling. I'm sweating post shower all day and I'm starting to smell by the end of the day even with mitcham on! So I end up having an evening bath or shower. It's so gross.

Sage, red clover , soy isoflavones, black cohosh all used for menopausal hot flushes. Also, Evening primrose oil.

How old are you? Would the coil be better than the pill?

You must ask your doctor to check your hormone levels, don't be fobbed off with ' It's just how I'm wired' ? Is the Dr Male or female?

Do these happen at night too?

MrTrebus · 23/08/2017 22:58

I'm 33 and it's all day on and off but I sleep fine. Doc is male but the practice owner and a fabulous doctor. He did tests and all is fine. It's just me and my hormones. I really don't like the idea of the coil, I decided against anything "in" me so opted for the pill.

I had his problem after I turned 30 (a long time ago Grin ). Everything is fine but being always hot is a pain! My tips are probably obvious:
I shower as often as necessary
I wear Summer clothes pretty much all year round - layering is easy enough.
At home, you can use a fan. If it's really bad I use a water spray over my legs and arms - as it dries it cools you down.
Stick your feet or wrists under the cold water tap, that will cool down your circulation. Stick your feet in a bucket of ice cold water. That works a treat Grin
Drink cold drinks, choose the shady side of the street, if a room at home is cooler stay in that room and not in the hot one!

It is a pain but I haven't bought a jumper or a coat for years. Also the heating hardly comes on at home Grin

Buy a can of magicool from boots. It's essentially ice cold water in a pressurised can and really helps with overheating

Other than that, I would certainly be back to the doctors

It might be menopause. Check with the doctor and get some blood tests to confirm. Alternatively it might be a thyroid issue.

MrTrebus · 25/08/2017 15:09

Thanks I've been checked for thyroid numerous times in my life but always fine no problems. Can't hurt to get it checked again though just in case. I'm going to get some magicool and try that plus all the other suggestions as well. Do any of you take any herbal supplements? I don't want to spend a fortune though. Would menopausal herbal supplements help?
