To ask if anyone else has a newborn who doesn't nap during the day?

Is that weird?

DD is six weeks old and doesn't nap during the day. She might doze for 20 mins but thats it. She just fights sleep to the death. Will lie wide awake in her pram while I walk for miles.

Good sleeper at night though. Takes a bottle at eleven, up 4-5 and then back down till 8 (although I have an unsympathetic 2 year old who makes me get back up at 6.30 so I'm not too smug).

The days are hard going, she doesn't seem particularly happy to not be asleep and by 6pm she's bringing the building down because she's exhausted. She'll then have one ounce of milk and crash out.

I'm worried she isn't getting enough sleep?

Other than lug her around in my right arm while trying to play with DD1 one-handed 😕

Long walks, with DS in the sling. He likes looking at things.

Trips round the supermarket with him in the sling - again he likes looking at everything.

Housework with him in his bouncy chair so I can talk to him and he can see me while I'm doing it.

Listening to music (he likes me singing to him, but he also likes YouTube on my phone).

Reading him stories - can be anything, from Tiddler to my medical journals. He likes the eye contact and attention.

Activity mat, tummy time.

Quiet time feeding/trying to get him to nap, while I read.

We do a couple of mum and baby classes each week - one swimming class, one sensory class. He likes them.

I don't get anything useful done in the daytime. I hand him over to DH at 7 so I can sprint round and do a bit of housework, and then do most of my stuff once he's in bed. I assume I won't do anything before 8pm, and if I do get ten minutes it's a bonus. This phase won't last long so no point fighting it.

my DC never napped again after about 2 months

@RozDoyle I feel the same- with DC1 I took her to every class but now I have 2 I can't do that. I do feel like he's in his bouncy chair and play mat a lot of the time.

In reality he's not, I just can't be as attentive (obsessively so...) as I was with DD. We listen to music and dance all together, we read and sing all together.

Babies generally love spending time with their primary carers and don't care what you do...just try and talk to them as much as possible and involve your toddler in this.
